We Stayed In The Ground Floor Studio Apartment No.

We stayed in the ground floor studio apartment no. 1 at Meropi Apartments, like most self catering accommodation on Paxos it was very simple but our flat was very clean and comfortable, with air conditioning and lovely hot strong showers. There was a beautiful view from our terrace, which had a table, sunbeds and clothes drier. Inside, there were two showers and toilets, a sofa bed in one room and a twin bed in the other. The best thing about Meropi was the quality of customer service we got from Carol and the others at Paxos Magic. They were a wonderful help and made little arrangements on our behalf such as taxis, restaurant bookings and a birthday cake on the first night. The transfers via ferry and taxi were very organised and went smoothly. Lakka is a ten minute walk via a steep incline through olive groves and then along two beaches but we really enjoyed the walk everyday. A torch is essential for evenings however. To enjoy Paxos, it is essential to hire a boat as the best beaches near to Lakka are difficult to reach on foot. It took all of 5 minutes to learn how to manage the boat with no prior experience. The only warning is that the sea can become choppy. Get advice from the boat hire company before you leave and keep an eye on the water, if you see white peaks on the waves it's time to head home to the harbour in Lakka. We were there in July and still managed to find deserted beaches on our boat and could get to Gaios in 15 minutes and stop off for a drink in Loggos on the way, which was fantastic. We hired it in advance from Planos Holidays, who were excellent, when we had slight engine problems one day, the petrol feed accidentally got disconnected, they immediately rushed out on another boat to rescue us after sending them a text message! Lakka is quite expensive for food shopping and eating out, buy your wine from the wine shop and not the supermarkets, you'll get a better deal. Also, try the restaurants in the centre of the village, rather than just the sea front. We loved Nionios, they let you tour the kitchens and inspect the food before you order. Paxos is a beautiful island, you feel like you're in the Caribbean, definitely recommended.
