My Husband And I Went To Garbis Villas Simply For

My husband and I went to Garbis Villas simply for a complete relaxation. The villas lived up to their name, of being very private and off the main strip. The villas were really lovely, and cleaned every day and they were spotless. Beautiful private pool (we went mid September and hardly anyone there), which we more or less had to ourselves. The owners were very pleasant, often leaving us freshly baked croissants every morning.

The only complaint I have, is not with the villas, but with the food in the tavernas on that part of the island. The food was expensive (60-70 euros a night for two of us) and really not of good standard. All vegetables were tinned, even though we passed countless vegetable patches all over the island, and everything was just tastless - which was a real shame. We spent £1000 in a fortnight just on food. Even the greeks were saying that the locals can no longer afford to eat out anymore.

Other than that, everyone was extremely pleasant and friendly, every restaurant gave you a free drink at the end of the meal, and the seafood was very fresh - the only good food we could find.

I would have not hesitation in recommending the Garbis Villas to anyone, especially if you want peace and quiet. We had a lovely holiday.

I would also highly recommend our travel company and the rep on the island. Our rep constantly came to check we were OK and nothing was too much trouble. We really felt well looked after.

I was surprised to read Babrahams comments on the quality and price of the food on the island. On our many visits to Kefalonia, we have never paid more than about 40 Euros for two people and that was a big splash out dinner! The best dinner we had was in Lourdas at Daffy Ducks, I am sure this is not the real name but the sign outside the restaurant has a picture of Daffy Duck holding a drill! It was superb, fresh and inexpensive compared to the UK. The best deal we have had on the Island was at the Two Rams in Troyonata, again I don't know if this is the name but it has a wire sculpture of two rams in the front gardens, it cost 58 Euros for 9 people, including 4 litres of wine and 8 bottles of beer! Fresh meat from their herd, wine made from their own vineyard and lemons from the trees, try asking for Horta which is a bit like spring greens, it is always fresh and have a Greek salad rather than tinned veg!

Well we have just returned from another two glorious weeks at the lovely Garbis Villas.

Again this year they were spotless and everyone was so helpful and pleasant. The fact that the season was almost at an end, was even better for us as it was just so quiet.

Even the food on the island was a little better this year and I can highly recommend Spiros and La Mer for a good night out with good food, except for the tinned veg and mushrooms.

We won't be going back next year, and we have decided on a change, but we will certainly be visiting Garbis Villas, Lourdas and Kefalonia in the future.

Keep up the good work Mr & Mrs Garbis, and thankyou for all the lovely fresh lunches you cooked for us.

We enjoyed this holiday so much that although we had booked a holiday to Egypt we have now changed this and are going back to the Garbis Villas this October.

We emailed Mr Garbis and he remembered us and he is very welcoming. He is going out of his way to ensure that we have the same villa we had last year after our request. Nothing is too much trouble - this is the reason we are going back.

We can't wait and we cannot rate the villas high enough and the island really is beautiful. Roll on October.
