Delhi Hyatt Regency Hotel Is A Disgrace.

Delhi Hyatt Regency hotel is a disgrace.

I'd booked because of its location and its having a pool large enough for laps (I'm a keen 3km / day swimmer). Despite having booked 3 months in advance, I only discovered the pool closed for renovation the morning after arival! They hadn't bothered to let arriving guests know.

The AC in rooms has no temperature control, just a fan control. The room was suffocating, and I had a constant battle in order to get housekeeping to open the window (they are closed and require a special tool to open). They said I could only have it open for 30 minutes for security reasons (despite being on the fifth floor). There is no security in this hotel. A casual guest was able to enter the hotel and knock on my door at 1am without any checks whatsoever.

My business partner had a Sprite out the minibar which tasted rather odd. Turns out it, like several other mini bar items were long out of date!

A complaint requesting that a manager contact to explain this and other shortcommings was, 10 hours later, still ignored.

Reception staff are exquisitely turned out and manicured. Sadly we both found them curt and surly.

It takes the car service 20 minutes of mesing around with paperwork to process an order and payment (which cannot be charged to room) to arrange a car. Not helpful in Delhi where travelling by taxi isn't really the easiest way of getting about between appointments safely and effeciently.

I asked the hotel florist to prepare a bouquet as we were visiting a friends house for dinner. The 2500 Rs bunch was 50% dead and brown. It pretty much sums up the entire hotel experience here.

AVOID!

Update.......

I wrote this review 4 hours before checking out.

After check out I used the spa for a steam and to change. I was refused a razor as I'd checked out already!

That was the final straw. I bumped into the manager in reception, in conversation with my business partner, who had his own issues with the place.

After explaining what had happened, the manager escorted me to the spa where a sea change in attitude occurred. Nothing was too much trouble. Even razor blades.

The stay was made complimentary.

A limo to airport and airport representative were provided.

Dinner at another hotel was taken care of, courtesy of the hotel.

I'm going to return to this hotel next time I'm in Delhi. They have some issues, but they genuinely seem to want to get it right.

Bottom line - every business screws up occasionally. It's the way they deal with it that sets them apart.
