Belle Mare Plage Hotel

The hotel staff at Belle Mare Plage Hotel were exceptional in the service they provided. They were polite, very able and willing to tend to your every need. The hotel had excellent facilities for all the family. You can do as much or as little as you like. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone and we are going back this year. The people of Maritius are lovely!!

We stayed 2 weeks during July 2007. Our first impact of the hotel as we arrived was stunning and for us that 'WOW!' feeling never went away. We had a truly fantastic time. Ours was the "basic" - a 'prestige' room (all the rooms face the beach) The room fittings were superb (air con, glass basins, walk in shower etc) and throughout our stay it was superbly well maintained by a team of staff - flowers on the bed every night was a really nice touch. We stayed half board and the food was another great experience. The main restaurant offers a buffet service - the choice was almost too much with Mauritian, Chinese, English and Indian Menus (every night) and it was all excellent - there are at least three other restaurants on the site as well. The most outstanding aspect though was the staff. The service at Belle Mare Plage is the best we've ever experienced anywhere. Wherever you are around the hotel (including on the beach) there is someone close at hand for anything you need. No-one is 'pushy' and everyone is polite - it's great! In addition to the golf (there are two golf courses) the hotel provides a whole lot of activities free (water skiing, glass bottom boat, snorkeling etc) plus there's other things like diving available on site. We didn't/don't play golf but that didn't affect our stay here. Absolutely the best place we have ever found - we will be going back there and we would recommend it to anyone.

Returned after several years away, and the NEW Belle Mare Plage hotel in Mauritius is outstanding! Superb new rooms and villas. Truly 5-star level service, although there were a couple of aspects to the room which were not totally 5-star. Yet, the value compared to other 5-stars in Mauritius is extremely high. Will happily return.

We have had a fabulous 2 week honeymoon at the Belle Mare Plage. The scenery is stunning - the hotel upgraded us to a beachfront suite and our uninterrupted view of the ocean was second to none.

We found the staff to be extremely friendly - nothing is too much trouble. There were loads of them around everywhere - this is their off-season and they train all their new staff at this time.

We had read the previous reviewers' comments before coming away and were a little concerned. I am extremely surprised at the comments about bad management - we have experienced nothing but courtesy and helpfulness. The beach is beautiful with a safe roped off area for swimming. The pools are crystal clear and very refreshing to swim in. The sheer choice at the half board buffet is amazing with chefs cooking to your choice on the spot.

I can only surmise that the previous reviewer was either confused and has reviewed a different hotel!! I felt compelled to write this review as I know people often only comment when they haven't enjoyed something. I want to reassure anyone who has a honeymoon or other holiday booked at the Belle Mare Plage that you will have a fabulous time and come home beautifully relaxed and spoiled by the service!! Enjoy!

If you're after golf, then you may want to consider the Belle Mare. But if it's sheer luxury that you want, on a beautiful beach, go elsewhere.

The staff are absolutely useless, though smiley. The beach is narrow and we found it almost impossible to swim in the sea due (best to walk about 10 minutes to the left towards the Saint G ran).

There is quite obviously of bad management issue at this hotel, and it doesn't deserve all these stars. Best go somewhere else.

Have just come back from a very disappointing 2-week honeymoon at the Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius.

Beautiful architecture, but the service is absolutely useless. Obviously no training or management provided to the hundreds of staff who float around the place.

The swimming pool is dirty from about lunchtime.

The beach is really bad (you're better off walking 10 minutes to the left, direction of Saint G ran).
