Nyali Beach, Hotel Nyali Beach

We chose Kenya for our honeymoon as it was surprisingly cheap when compared to other safari-going holidays, such as South Africa, and we settled on Nyali Beach Hotel mainly due to its close proximity to the airport (around 20 minutes drive) and very close to Mombasa central.

From the moment we landed in Mombasa everything went really smoothly. We were picked up and transported to the hotel, and from the minute we arrived the staff were fantastic.

The hotel is very individual due to its age (60 years old) and it's unusually laid out, but we felt that actually added to the character rather than modern hotels all looking the same.

The rooms were great, with a fantastic view from the balcony over the palm trees to the beach about 50 yards away (and this was in the cheaper Garden Wing), and monkeys arrived at least twice a day to say hello and ask for bananas.

The food was of a very good standard, but the choice became a little limited by the end of our stay. We were given two free meals in the Mvita Grill, which is the hotels high-class seafood and steak restaurant, and also a few bottles of red wine. This place has to be visited. It really is some of the best food I've eaten!

We had a fantastic honeymoon in Nyali Beach, and we would not swap it for anywhere. The best thing about the hotel is the staff - they were all so friendly and would bend over backwards to help you out, and provide anything you needed. We also had a 4 day safari in the middle of our 2 weeks, which was also fantastic, staying at top-notch lodges, and I also recommend that you take the opportunity to do that.

Nyali Beach Hotel is a wonderful place. It is individual, and we have come away with some wonderful memories that will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
