After A Long Period Of Hard Work We Needed A Break
After a long period of hard work we needed a break and good relax, this we found at the Gunjur Beach Lodge.
Lovely setting, great staff and peace and tranquility.
Ok sometimes one of the locals wanted to talk to you but that did not bother us as most of the time we just had the time and space to ourselves. Exploring the area was a real eye opener as we saw the day to day life in the villages, got a peek in some compounds and sat in the local school with the pupils.
What we also liked about the lodge was the warm hospitality, the staff are very helpful lead by their managers. Anything we asked for was possible and they are very flexible. Food was good, not a big choice but always fresh and well cooked.
The breakfast was far better then we had expected based on previous experiences in similar lodges in other countries.
One other highlight was a boat trip we took on board the Mam Boye C. We cruised through the creeks of the River Gambia on this luxury boat. The food was out of this world.
All in all a great holiday, one to repeat (which we usually never do) and we are making plans to return next year

We Found This Gem Whilst Preparing Our Holiday On
We found this gem whilst preparing our holiday on the internet. The contact was made, and after a few doubts we decided to book the holiday. And we did not regret it at all. Upon arrival at Gunjur Beach Lodge in The Gambia we were collected from the airport, and after a 30 minute drive through villages and the rural areas we reached the fishing village of Gunjur in the south of The Gambia where the lodge is located.
Spot on the beach. A very friendly welcome by the Dutch manager and her team. We felt at home within minutes. The attitude of the staff and management was that almost everything is possible.
The rooms are about 50 steps from the beach, and the first thing we did every morning was going for a swim in the Atlantic.
We explored the surrounding villages and we saw the day to day life of the Gambian people. We did lots of exciting things like fishing at sea with the local fishermen, bird watching, djembe drumming around the camp fire and going on safari. The djembe player showed us a lot of his home town and everywhere we went we were welcome. He's a great djembe player and taught us some tricks of the trade.
The breakfast is perfect, and so is the food they serve. Don't expect any fancy food, but we decided to call it honest food as that is what it is. Local ingredients combined to get fine food. We had lots of fresh fish, even lobster and tiger prawns for amazingly low prices, but also a good steak and chips.
We can highly recommend this lodge. The manager promised they would do some renovations and upgrade the rooms. The lodge is eco-friendly and runs on solar, so take a torch as it can be helpful.
