Villa Rental Alfas del Pi Spain

Rented a Villa 7 Calle gredos Cautivador Alfas del Pi Spain. On the website It looked secure with gates and grills on doors and windows. On arrival Wifi wasn't working, the keyholder tried to resolve it when they came for the damage deposit and fee for cleaning, which was not worth it as the toilets had not been cleaned for many months or more nor the plugholes and taps. But they only did what we had tried to reset the router etc. We feel the code to access wifi was wrong so nobody could access it.

To cut short the tale any promised visits of someone to fix the wifi issue seemed to be only a ruse to find out if we were in at nights, this is in hindsight. The keyholder had a key, as they mentioned it so could have accessed the Villa if they knew we were out, most keyholders will have spare sets so we didn't think it dodgy at the time..

They phoned on the last full day and asked if we were going out, as they wanted to return the damage deposit before we went out for the night, rather than waste time handing it over the next morning, but they didn't inspect the Villa which we thought strange.

They said leave the key in the villa when your leaving it'll be OK I said I would not leave the villa unlocked and would leave the key where we found it if they were not coming to collect it the next morning.

We went out for app 3 hours.

On returning and entering the locked front entrances we saw the back door and security gate open damaged the barrel of the lock taken. We called the keyholder who didn't seem shocked or ask if any of the owners things had been stolen they had an expensive TV which most burglars would have stolen as they are light.

Nor would she come out and bring anyone to make the Villa secure for the last night.

The police would not come out, we had to drive to them for a report.

The villa had no safe so our insurance won't pay out for cash or valuables stolen from the Villa. The renter of the Villa, Carsten, says they only had normal house insurance, which are paying for their claims for stolen items hah and damage but not ours, which means they were not covered by insurance for renters...

We informed the website the villa was advertised on of the breakin etc and they refunded the cost of the booking, but this is way short of the value of monies and valuables stolen.

The travel insurance wont pay for stolen cash that was not in a safe or on our person, nor pay more than £50 upto £250 for un receipted items and as many of the items were gifts from family over years we have lost a fortune in watches and jewelry.

Always check policy wording before you buy and DO NOT BOOK THIS VILLA. Everyone says it seems too dodgy that in 3 hours of us being out, the Villa was broken into which would have needed tools to gain access... and time to do get on through security gates.

We have no proof of who broke in to rob us in the Villa, and as there was no wifi working our CCTV cameras were not working, had there been the wifi working in the Villa which was supposed to be at the villa, we would have proof who went into the villa.

But it seems very dodgy, to anyone we tell that the owners items like the expensive TV had not been stolen and that the burglars seem to know we would be out on that night at that time and NOT just a coincidence or chance burglary. But feel free to make up your own minds.

Shame really as the pool was lovely and plenty room outside and plenty warm water for showers even outside at the pool.

BUT RENT THIS VILLA AT YOUR OWN RISK.. FOREWARNED AS THEY SAY!!!
