High Butterbent Cottage

I can't fault the cottage or location. I have rented many cottages over the years and this was the first time I was asked for a deposit of £100 which made me feel a little wary. . As far as I was concerned the cottage was left in a tidy condition especially with the deposit in mind. I got a letter from the owner who lives next door but was away that weekend to say she had deducted £10 off for extra cleaning costs. There was dirt on the hall stairs every step had to be cleaned (I wasn't aware of this), the bottom of the pans were sticky and had to be cleaned (no hot water left but did boil the kettle), together again with top of hub which had to be scraped. A pillow had to be washed as fluid spilt on it, the fire was left with half burnt logs and unburnt coal (have never cleaned out a fire anywhere else before).

There were no towels provided apart from a hand towel. Would suggest you leave free your last day to make sure you clean it thoroughly in order to get your whole deposit back.
