Cornwallscottages.co.uk Can (and Did) Cancel A Booking

We made a booking with cornwallscottages.co.uk for "Rosevean" cottage near Bodmin, for 12 - 17 July 2016, at a price of £669.94. Cornwalls Cottages accepted the booking, and we paid the full amount to Cornwalls Cottages, who then sent us their booking confirmation.

Just six days before we were due to stay at the cottage, Cornwalls Cottages cancelled the booking. They were not willing or able to provide other similar accommodation at a similar price. They did, however, offer us two other properties priced at £1,322.30 and £1,469.30 respectively - approximately twice the price of the original booking!

The original reason given for the cancellation was that a cleaner could not be arranged for our start date. We told them that we could be flexible with our start date. The story now changed, and we were told that the cottage was now not available for the whole week that we had booked for.

We asked Cornwalls Cottages why the cottage was now unavailable. A supervisor at Cornwalls Cottages explained that the owner of the cottage had made the cottage unavailable because (in his words) the owner was stupid, and (again in his words) that some of the owners they deal with do stupid things.

This cancellation caused us great inconvenience, and we had to spend considerable time and extra expense to find alternative, last minute accommodation and to change train tickets. The supervisor at Cornwalls Cottages told us that, as per their terms and conditions, Cornwalls Cottages act only as an agency, and that our contract was actually with the cottage owner, and not with Cornwalls Cottages. He said that Cornwalls Cottages had no liability to us.

So beware when booking with cornwallscottages.co.uk, because they can (and did) cancel a booking at short notice.

Discounts That Don't Exist

I wanted to book a cottage with this agency. The cottage I wanted to book seemed a reasonable price for April/early May, but the text stated that there was a discount for 2 people out of peak season. I input my dates but the discount was not given. I queried this on the chat facility and was told that peak season is from Easter to end of October! which is clearly out of sync with other agencies who clearly advertise their seasons. I suggested that this was a misrepresentation, but this suggestion was dismissed without explanation. This company is clearly not transparent and I would not feel confident enough expect them to deal fairly with a booking or refund security deposit.

Laburnum Cottage Rental

Laburnum Cottage is a very well restored cottage with high quality fittings, good village position. Very well looked after in excellent condition. We had a good stay which was spoilt by the inability of the cottage to seat six adults comfortably, there are two small lounges with hard furniture that seat four in each room. The hot water system is inadequate for six adults and there is no control offered for the heating system. No welcome pack provided (some previous visitors had them !) Cornwall Cottages told us that the photos of the property clearly show the living room layout, and that they do not offer welcome packs. They declined to comment on the hot water or other points raised with them, they say that these have been passed to the owners for their comments. This cottage is ideal for a young family but not for adults holidaying together.

Location, Location, Location

Morleys Cottage is in a perfect location, only yards from the harbour, coastal walks and central to all cafe's, restaurants and pub. We visited The Krab Pot, The Mote and Golden Lion, all great.

The negative point to mention is the cleanliness, everywhere is dusty, lots of cobwebs, stained bedding and dirty floors. The cottage is clearly well used and probably could use some investment to raise the standard of accommodation, we paid over £500 for the weeks stay.

Fantastic Holiday In Holywell Bay - Romany Rye!

I have just returned from a fabulous week's holiday in Holywell Bay, where I was staying in a property called Romany Rye. This has to be one of the most well appointed holiday homes I have stayed in and, despite the fact that they welcome a well behaved dog, was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The whole house is bathed in light and there are amazing views from all the windows at the rear of the house. Many a pleasant hour was spent sitting in the conservatory watching all the comings and goings on the beach. This property really could not be better situated if you are looking for a relaxing break with easy, safe access to a fantastic beach. We took our nine month old Labrador, Murphy, for his first holiday and he had the most amazing time stone fishing in the "waddy" and generally enjoying the sand dunes. We did a fair bit of walking along the coastal path which was fantastic and, despite the fact that the weather was not particularly amazing, we had a really relaxing break. Crantock, and in particular The Cosy Nook, are well worth a visit, as are all the fabulous beaches that this part of Cornwall has to offer. The owners of Romany Rye are to be highly commended for the standard of accommodation they offer, especially the very thoughtful touches like the fresh flowers in the lounge and on the dining table, the welcome basket (including wine!) and the basket of beach towels, not to mention buckets and spades, fishing nets, deck chairs! I cannot speak highly enough of both the property and the service we received from Cornwalls Cottages.

Aalsmeer Widemouth Bay Bungalow

we visited this bungalow last week 1 -7 sept 2013 for a holiday although the

bungalow was very dated I was very disappointed with the amount of dust in the corners especially at the sides of the double bed were you have to put your hands when you plug in, the video cabinet and the information cupboard ,the dirty front room carpet and the inside of the front room window ,we expected a working aga in the kitchen but only had a delivery of oil late in the week so we put storage heaters on and found the one in the twin bedroom did not work and that the tv socket was powered from a extension lead which was plugged into another extension lead failing a loop impedance test so although Aalsmeer is in a great location our vist was not the best,as we had a young toddler with us , to be fair most of this is the problem of the cleaners not the website as booking was straight forward and easy this is my opinion

Violet Cottage, Juliots Well Holiday Park, Camelford

We were very disappointed with our holiday. When booking I was told the site had a fly fishing lake but when we arrived the park informed us it had been closed almost a year now. The pictures on the website of the pool are incredibly inaccurate. It was listed as a heated pool but it was colder than any pool I'd been in! We were also not told that dogs cannot be left in the cottage alone at any time even though we always bring a travel crate with us so they don't damage anything. After paying around £800 for a week in this cottage I will not be going to this place again! The park has wood lodges with hot tubs on site and the hot tub had been removed from our Cottage so I'd go there if I were you as it would be a LOT cheaper and you would have all the CORRECT information before arriving.

Vellan Cottage, St Keverne

Cornwalls Cottages was very professional keeping us informed and giving us all important details before our holiday. Lovely cottage with everything that we needed. The place was clean and we really appreciated the welcome talk when we arrived. The cottage is located in a very quiet area, ideal for resting, but not too far from the beaches and others interesting places to visit. We really loved the holiday and recommend the place!

Honeysuckle Cottage, Wadebridge

Cornwall Cottages were very efficient and the description of the property accurate. Honeysuckle Cottage was excellent; beautifully decorated and well equipped - modern bathroom, kitchen and comfortable beds. There were only four of us staying, but it would comfortably sleep six. Perfect base for exploring north cornwall.
