Bowden Head Farmhouse Cottage, Chapel-en-le-Frith

I wrote a review of this place on the 9th this month but I noticed only the name of the rental company appeared.

We arrived in the coldest day of December with ice in the very narrow path leading to the cottage, we ask direction to a car passing by.. who,we learn later, happened to be the owner, there was no greetings or acknowledgments !

We arrived at very cold cottage, no heating on, even though we phoned on the way there that we will be arriving late,we arrived at 6 pm.

At first impression not only cold but there was a damp and musty smell, all was shabby and dirty.

We phoned the company who send the owner,next door,the woman who we met in car on arrival appeared at the kitchen door unfriendly with ' I hear you have some complaints !!'

She told me that the cottage was cold because it has been unoccupied for two weeks,and that it was dirty because she didn't have a good cleaner who couldnt move the beds !

Behind and below the beds were balls of dust and cobwebs.

The first night I was unable to sleep in the small bedroom and had to sleep in a sofa in the sitting room. After that I slept in the small bank bed with candles litten to disguised the smell.

Next day we had to hoover the whole place, moving the beds, were we found not only dirt but items of dirty clothing.

Furniture is old, on lifting a small table the leg came off,the stove door collapsed on the second day.

The microwave was brown inside with rust and dirt,the bottom of the kitchen dustbin supposedly metal was dark and sticky with dirt,all quite unhygienic and disgusting.Freezer still with traces of food.

Carpets full of stains,unable to hoover.

I am still recovering from a cough that I develop there !

I have photos of various areas also of the table mats (after cleaning them) equally dirty and disgusting.

Only the situation and views from the cottage were pleasing.

We have been in nice, cleaned cottages before, but this one has put as off renting in the future.

How could they be allowed to treat people like that !! We are not farm animals.
