St Malo Is A Fantastic Walled City In The North Of
St Malo is a fantastic walled city in the North of France in Brittany. It is also a ferry port with ferries arriving from the UK via Brittany Ferries and others. We stayed at the Le Chatelet Campsite in St Cast which is a half hours drive from St Malo. There is also a great campsite a Chateau de Galinee in St Cast. We found these campsites through www.bestfrenchcampsites.com
We drove to St Malo and parked at a Park and Ride service which took us into the main part of the town using a modern bendy bus ! We were there when the Tall Ships Race was on which was a bonus. You can wander round the walled city and even walk along the walls and read about this history of pirates (corsaires) who set out from St Malo. There are many restaurants and cafes as well as sandwich takeaways and ice creams shops. You can get your portrait done by a pavement artist or a caricature ! There are usually musicians too. Its a great day out. We found a lovely sandwich bar straight ahead as you walked in the main door of the walled city - I think its at the East End. There is also an aquarium which you can visit in St Malo. Other attractions fairly near include Mont St Michel.
