Chania, Crete

This was a walking holiday around the Kissamos area of Western Crete. I found myself in a group of 16 men and women, the men in particular were massively overweight, the reason for which turned out to be their capacity for drinking the cheap, rough local wine and Raki. One of the women took a dislike to me, for no reason whatsoever on the plane over. I decided my best move was to ignore her, however, this made me appear to be the 'bad guy'. As I do not drink, this made me the 'odd one out'. I got a lot of downright rudeness from the others on account of my sobriety. The walks were rather boring, stony paths through olive groves in the boiling sun.Two walks down gorges were more interesting, but much too short. The guide seemed very ignorant about history and archaeology and only interested in showing us the small local Orthodox churches. At one point we were taken to her husband's family farm, and exercise designed to sell us the olive oil they produce. Presumably a 'side-line'apart from the solos Holiday.Five out of the seven nights we were taken to eat at the taverna also owned by her husband. We were told that it was the 'best in town', but we had nothing to gauge this by. The food was 'patchy'some dishes downright inedible. We were taken for a meal in Chania one evening, but I had a stomach upset the following day. One meal was a laughably poor 'packed picnic'.My hotel room would have been ok if it hadn't been for the mosquitoes in the bathroom (I had the foresight to take my own net)and the fact that the sheet was a single one on a double bed.The beach outside the hotel was stoney, so it was difficult to get into the sea.This holiday was not value for

money in any way. The words 'rip-off' spring to mind.
