Faulty Car & Overcharging
Noticed a fault with the car driving from the airport to campsite on the evening of 1st July. Contacted Europcar on the 2nd July was told to drive the faulty car to a nearby town 25 mins away at our expense in terms of diesel and time it took in excess of 3 hours. Problem fixed had car for duration. Returned the car on the 11th July explained the issue to staff member at desk in airport - took 20 mins to do so he took notes explained manager would be in contact on the 13th July. No email or call was ever made. Received two invoices on the 29th July no letter of explanation one in french and one in english. Could not make head nor tail of it looked like we were being charged again even though we had paid upfront before we left for France. Noticed 60 deducted for additional days 4 in total which did not occur!!! Very upset rang the Europcar office in Dublin transferred to call centre in Uk spoke to a rude rep. who could not explain the invoices he did admit it was strange that two separate payments of 30 euro for the additional days. 2 additional days at 30 euro so in total 60 deducted in two separate occasions. Informed it would be investigated and that I would get an email never happened within 3-10 working days. Very annoyed that it would be email and not a phone call since I had spent 45 mins on the phone to the Europcar rep.
Received another invoice on the 7th August no email or call in the meantime. No letter of explanation just aneother confusing invoice. It stated admin fee charges of 30 euro!!! So Europcar had just changed the title of the fee from additional days to Admin Fee charges of 30 euro. The second amount of 30 euro looked like it was being refunded. However checked MBNA visa card and was informed no payment of 30 had been refunded on our car.
Since then I have sent three more emails to Europcar 11th August 14th August and 19th August no response as of the 20th August.
My advice do not use Europcar try elsewhere or get the ferry and bring your own car less stress and hassle.
Warning For Rentals With Inter-ride/eurospar Bike & Car Hire
INTER-RIDE BIKE HIRE / EUROSPAR CAR HIRE in Corfu, Greece is a company that should be steered away from. They calculate daily rentals as being 12 hours, instead of the standard 24 hours. Vehicles are in poor shape. Kept me stranded for 10 hours waiting for mechanic to arrive. I was asked to travel 5.8 km to collect a car I had reserved. I had no problem with this, however as the car I had booked came in, the persons handing it back asked for an extension. Realising that they would be able to charge higher rates for the extension, I was arrogantly advised that the car was not available and that it was not their problem that my holiday plans were brought to an upheaval.
