I Can Echo All The Previous Comments (on Other Web
I can echo all the previous comments (on other websites) about this airport. Its not fit for purpose, the departure lounge is tiny and the Airside shop prices give the impression that its your wallet and not you the customer that's important.
From what I've seen from previous visits to Turkey, its a wonderful country and the people are so genuinely warm and friendly. The airport however leaves a bitter taste in the mouth after having had a great holiday.
Charging 5 Euros for a can of coke, the same for a portion of chips or a can of Pringles clearly is extortionate. The 5 Euros for a 1L bottle of water is Bodrums contribution to tightened Aviation security, as David Brent would say "every cloud has a silver lining". The prices really are so ridiculously high that many people I met refused to purchase anything, instead waiting to purchase on board the flight at much reduced prices.
You don't have to surrender your water at the initial security checks when entering the airport as other reviews have suggested.
Its a badly run airport that reflects poorly on Turkey. The airport does however beat having to fly from Izmir or Dalaman when staying in the Bodrum area
Since this review was written, a brand new International Terminal has been built which opened about 3 years ago, I have been a regular traveller to Bodrum for many years so I can identify with the issues raised in this review about the old terminal.
The new terminal is modern, spacious, open plan and airy, plenty of seating (relatively comfortable). There are plenty of toilets which are always spotlessly clean. There's a large duty free shop although the staff push you to buy more than your UK duty free allowance. (There's an allowance for taking alcohol and tobacco out of Turkey which is higher than the allowance to bring those items into the UK and they work to the Turkish allowances.)
There are several refreshment outlets and a bar but as with the old terminal these are expensive so many people bring snacks with them. There is security scanning as soon as you enter the airport and you are allowed to take drinks through that one for while you're queuing to check in. There's a second scan after passport control and you have to dispose of drinks before passing through this one.
I've seen various comments elsewhere about queues at visa desks but now that pre-purchased e-visas are compulsory that problem has gone away. Just make sure you buy your e-visa from the official web site (US$20) and don't get ripped off by one of the "agencies"

We Loved Bodrum And The Surrounding
We loved Bodrum and the surrounding areas. What we did not know was that the security policy applied as soon as you entered the airport, so all drinks had to be got disposed of. Okay, but when we went to buy some water £2.50 for a 500ml bottle. What a rip off. There was so many people complaining about how expensive everything was. £10.00 for a small plate of chips and a glass of coke!!!!!. Not enough ladies toilets, and they were not clean.

Boring - Only Two Very Small Shops Selling Alcohol
Boring - only two very small shops selling alcohol, cigarettes etc. and one general one selling sweets, crips and touristy bits and pieces. Uncomfortable, plastic seats, and not enough of those when the airport is busy. Like all airports, but a bit more so than most, food or any type of drink is very expensive. We are all aware that we have no choice but to pay up or go without, but this is daylight robbery. We love you Bodrum but this is no way to greet or say farewell to one of your greatest assets - the tourist

Bodrum Is A Fantastic Destination, But The Airport
Bodrum is a fantastic destination, but the airport... it is a bit less fantastic. Well, i didn't really expect big airport as this is a resort place, but having in mind how busy Bodrum gets, I expected it to be nicer, funnier, more things to do, etc. There all in all two duty free shops, small ones, one restaurant/ fast food, really expensive, and the bathrooms could be in a better state.
And one more remark, Turkish passport control officers should be a little bit more knowledgeable on European Union citizens and their right to travel!
I ticked recommended as basically if you are going to Bodrum there is no other place to land.
