Complete Frustration, Exhaustion, Almost Missed Flight

Avoid this airport at all costs. Liat Airlines, for one uses this airport as its hub. You have to exit your flights if transferring and go through the horrible "intourist" debacle which is disorganized beyond belief, you are pushed back and held while other flights are given priority to clear security, even though you only have minutes to make a transfer. We would have missed our flights each time had they not been delayed. There is no reason to run already pre-screened passengers transferring from other flights. Never seen a place run all passengers through screening again when they are already arriving from behind the screening point. Security screening equipment was broke each time resulting in long horrendous lines waiting to get through, with no place to relax or sit down. The worst treatment I have ever incurred any place and totally un-necessary. Pay a higher fare if you have to, to fly with a airline that doesn't route you through Antigua. If you want your vacation ruined in frustration this is the best place to start.

Antigua Vc Bird Airport Is Quite Small, The Immigr

Antigua VC Bird airport is quite small, the immigration + baggage hall can be slow, avoid the porters.

Upon return all cases searched we were aware of this and got there 3 hours early and avoided the queue, also because we were going over to the Sticky Wicket cricket club and museum, for a drink and a meal, in what only can be described as luxury surroundings. This is what all seasoned Antigua travellers do after check in. Because the departure lounge is a bit tatty, nice jewellers and shops, but the bar is small and with more than 2 aircraft on the stand it is crowded. Once the flight is called you pass through the gate and go under the covered walkway, it was dark when we did this and there was no one to guide us. I can imagine some less informed travellers trying to get on the wrong plane.
