***fantastic New Management***

Have just come back from 3 days in this wonderful campsite just outside Rye. There are two lovely fields to choose from, with plenty of space for the children to play. The facilites are all new and shiny. There is a large washing up area and big parking area. The new owners are very friendly and welcoming with lots of ideas on what to do locally. We rode our bikes to Rye and then on to Camber Sands. We hired a brazier and had a lovely fire in the evening. Definitely one to return to.

What Did They Do To The Hare And Hounds!

I have stayed at the Hare and Hounds over the last 20 years on at least 8 occassions as a camper and using the B&B. It has changed hands about 3 times and prior to the current ownership I cannot recall a bad experience. I must say that I have had the least enjoyable stay under the current ownership. 3 men own/run the site and one of them is the rudest control freak that I have ever encountered. Everything is a problem to him. He does not cater to you needs at all and has an aggressive nature that is extremely off putting. The other 2 guys are friendlier and generally more helpful but can still have their moments. There is one toilet with a basin available (there is another but it is always locked) and although clean not in great decorative condition. The showers are ok...just, although locked most of the time. Encountering the dog is a frightening experience as it leaps at the gate everytime someone approaches and sticks its snarling jaws through a 4 inch gap between the gate and post; most unerving, particularly for kids. Such a shame and waste of a site in a good location that used to be friendly, enjoyable and used by many. What has Mr Rude done to the place. Won't be staying there again especially as it is not cheap for what you get! For campers it is so basic and inflexible and although the pub food is very good and the B&B accomadation is quite nice (looking a bit tired now though) you cannot get away from Mr Rude!

Dumb Hicks

Booked to camp in their back field/yard over the phone. They decided they needed to take a payment of £32 over the phone. Arrived to find a 'local pub'. EMPTY camp ground overlooked by the neighbors. People mowing laws etc. As we drove away their savage dog was trying to kill us from behind a fence. Heard the banjos playing. Decided not to stay.

Phoned them to make sure they haven't charged the card but of course they did because we had inconvenienced them. We had booked to pitch two two man tents. They apparently had 27 tents booked for the night. Miraculous!

Stay here if you want but you'll most likely be ripped off, buggered and mauled by Cujo.

We Visited The Hare And Hounds Late September And

We visited the Hare and Hounds late September and stayed in one of their rooms for 4 nights.

We had a lovely time and found the owners helpful and accomodating from the moment we arrived to the morning we left. The food was good and the service friendly.

The room was comfortable and had all you needed

We would recommend it to our friends and would stay again if in the area

Thanks for everthing

Not A Friendly Place. I Booked A Room At The Hare

Not a friendly place. I booked a room at the Hare & Hounds through the tourist information in town, who told me that the Hare & Hounds wouldn't be open until 6pm. I was at a wedding and we had dinner at 6, so I booked a taxi to go check in after dinner, at 8pm. When I rang the Hare & Hounds to check that would be ok, and the man answering the phone was immediately rude, telling me that check in was between 6 & 7, presumably for his convenience rather than any customers.

When my taxi was delayed half an hour I called to apologise to the owner, and he lost his rag, telling me to get there in 20 minutes or i wouldn't get the room, then telling me i had 15 minutes or i'd be locked out.

At that point I was offered a spare room by some other guests. I took it gratefully and forgot about the Hare & Hounds. Reading other reviews, it sounds like I made the right decision.. Why run a B&B if you can't be civil to your paying customers? The guy was just plain nasty, stay away.

If You Are Looking For A Place To Camp In Rye At A

If you are looking for a place to camp in Rye at a well run, friendly site suitable for families steer well clear of this place. We arrived 20 mins early and were told to wait for the site to open at 12.00 for toilet facilities which turned out to be one toilet situated next to the back door of the pub where, as stated by the previous reviewer, a Guard Dog was tied just inside the gate, and not only barked ferociously but could get her nose through a gap and snarl every time you had to use the facilities, the landlord showed no concern about the younger children being afraid to use the toilets. Showers open from 9.00 to 11.00 - no visits to the beach then. The pub was closed most of the day and we spent a lot of time talking to potential customers who couldn't camp - if you don't want campers close the field and don't take their money!!

Do Not Even Think About Camping Here The Showers A

Do not even think about camping here the showers are open for two hours in the morning ,the toliet and washroom is situated right next to the pub where you have the most aggressive dog bark at you everytime you go to it ,he barks constantly from 7 in the morning till 11 at night , the landlord is rude and not at all friendly to anyone who camps there ,for the bank holiday weekend there was 4 tents pitched ,we know why now !!!! The pub still runs on the old opening hours, stay clear of this place !!!!

My Familiy Have Been Camping At This Site For A Nu

My familiy have been camping at this site for a number of years but last year was the last straw we will not be returning. The 2 loos were regularly locked showers are rarely open. Best advice, just drive past. Years ago it was great but not anymore. Be warned expect to wade through maggots in the toilets at night as the neighbours are not friendly.

What A Disappointment. We Camped At Hare And Hound

What a disappointment. We camped at hare and hounds campsite 10 years ago and had a lovely break. The guy there now is just simply rude and offensive. Dont stay here.

He basically has loads of petty rules and thats it. Do what he say or 'have you money back and leave' was his attitude.

No one stayed more than one night whilst we were there.

The basic toilet (singular!) kept geting locked and we never managed to get a shower because it was locked.

Do yourself a favour and drive on.
