Stayed Here For 3 Nghts In July 2010 In Our Brand

stayed here for 3 nghts in july 2010 in our brand new tent and camping with our 3 1/2 year old twin boys for the first time. What can i say, everything was perfect, the price, the pitch, the facilities and the local attractions!!!

The site itself was perfect, our pitch was flat, spacious and covered by a hedge on 2 sides with electrical hook up point 10 yards away!! (water tap was only 20 yards away). The children really enjoyed playing on the kids play area and running through the now disused orchard. The toilet/shower block was always spotless and the 24 hour music was a nice touch. Also we found the owners to be very welcoming, pleasant and helpful during our stay.

The main reason we chose the Tuxford area was because we planned to visit Sundown Adventure Land which is a themed adventure park aimed at under 10s, a visit to the Heights Of Abraham at Matlock Bath and a visit Sherwood Forest, all of which we (and the kids) really enjoyed.

All in all this was a fabulous site with great and clean facilities in an ideal location and we would highly recommend to other campers.

If You Want A Good Old Fashioned Holiday, Without

If you want a good old fashioned holiday, without gimmicks and having to spend lots of money on entertainment then this is certainly the place to go. I have visited this site with my family 3 times so far and we are booked to go again for the bonfire night celebrations. Having visited on my own with my children the owners are very helpful. They are more than happy to aid and advise (I had a few problems parking my caravan) and they have a wealth of knowledge and experience they are willing to share. The shop is well priced and competitive to even the local shops nearby and my children enjoyed an ice cream or sweeties every day. The pitches have more than ample room which are set in old orchard, meticulously kept, surrounded by farmers fields. The facilities are always sparkling clean and the laundry facilities are very reasonably priced. This is a site that can certainly be enjoyed by children. An adventure play area which leads into the "maze" and is totally enclosed to provide security. We had lots of fun making dens and playing hide and seek. The children enjoyed many hours of fun riding their bikes and just generally having fun. My boxer dog Billy also joins us, there is a dog walking area but considering the amount of country side there is not a lot of need for this! As for nearby attractions there is Sundown Adventure Land, perfect for younger ones, Sherwood Forest which has a visitors centre and I strongly suggest you pay a visit to Tuxford windmill for a coffee and piece of cake!!

My Overall View Is That In My Opinion This Is A Go

My overall view is that in my opinion this is a good site run by the wrong people, they appear to me to be allowing the site to be turned into a "children especially welcome but don't bring dogs here" site, if that is the way they want it run fine but it would be more helpful and kinder to dogs, to make it a NO DOGS site.

There are a couple of inaccuracies in a review on here. We do welcome children, but they are not free, they are £1 per night each. Many of us remember the fantastic camping holidays as a child and it seems a shame to go 'adults only'. Of course there will be more children around in the school holidays. We have guidelines on behaviour but cannot patrol the park like a prison. When drawn to our attention, we are happy to intervene and advise on more appropriate behaviour. But let us know. The dog charge is a one off £5 valid for the life of the dog(s) to enable us to point out to dog owners the additional gudelines. We may appear slighlty less 'dog friendly' than 'child friendly' because the parents do not generally let their children leave a mess all over the place as a very small proportion of dog owners sometimes do. I disagree with this review because. It's perfect for a young family with a dog. I have visited this site on many occasions. I myself have a dog. A very large dog in fact. I am a responsible dog owner with 2 small children. The £5 is only paid once and after that there is no fee for the dog on subsequent visits, so that amount is very reasonable considering that one can be charged £1 per night for a pet. The dog walk is adequate and my goodness the whole area is country side, how could a dog be miserable?! My dog would be miserable if he didn't leave the campsite, instead he has mountains of fun running riot in the country side! I can fully appreciate that dogs cannot enter the play area, children or no children present. It poses a health and safety risk and even if a responsible dog owner should dispose of dog waste in the area, children will roll around and touch those areas that have been urinated or soiled on. I don't think any person, a mother or a dog owner would hate to see this. The owners of the campsite I have found to be fantastic with a wealth of experience for those people who are new to the camping experience. They should not be held responsible for the behaviour of other people's children. It's a lovely area for them and I am confident that my 5 and 6 year olds are safe, yes they do ride their bikes (on the road) and we all play ball games as family. All in all a fantastic place for a good old fashioned lovely family holiday free from electronic bribes of fruit and gaming machines, loud evening entertainment. I fully recommend this site and I hope to see you there!

Tuxford, Orchard Park Caravan And Camping Park - This is a very nice and peaceful camp site, and the new adventure playground allows the parents to get a few moments to themselves to chill and unwind.
