Lancashire, Silverdale, Holgates Caravan Park

Tried to book for Fri/Sat/Sun on BH weekend. Fully understand requirement to book 3 nights to maximise profits. However, site could only offer Sat/Sun, fully booked Fri. Unfortunate, but I would have been happy to be offered Sat/Sun as option. Instead, told that would have to book Sat/Sun/Mon! Unreasonable, children back at school Tues, so could not stay Mon night. To impose 3 night minumum when you can't offer the main 3 nights is unbelievable. Expressed concerns to site, told they may offer the 2 nights nearer time if 3 nights not booked. I booked another site instead for the Fri/Sat/Sun.

Holgates is a very clean and quiet site and we go back every year. The price for a touring caravan is quite expensive compared to the other local sites but I always feel relaxed and calm after my holiday. I think it is worth paying that bit more for the peace and quiet.

As mentioned in a previous review the 'Holgates Family' do run a tight ship they monitor the site closely and they do drive around the site everyday. I do not have a problem with this.

The only down side to my last visit was the temperature of the pool, IT WAS FREEZING. Lots of people were complaining as they got into the pool.

Great site, quiet, clean and a good cafe with great cakes.

We stayed on the Holgates Caravan Park camp site, nice spot but the staff regularly patrolled the site with clip boards checking details such as numbers of campers and cars, details we had already supplied. They regularly intruded on our privacy .When we erected a gazebo we were charged extra. The whole atmosphere was regimented and unfriendly. It was an unpleasant experience, don't go!

We've been to Holgates several times and will be going back twice more this year. It has the perfect balance of things for the adults and things for children, it's only a 20 minute drive from the Lakes and yet you leave the M6 at junction 35 before you hit the tailback traffic on a Friday night.
