Seek Your Journey - We recently went on a Slovenian Stroller tour starting in Ljubljana and heading up into the mountains before journeying by train down to Piran on the coast.

There were only 6 of us in the group and the tour manager made it clear that although we were there as a group, the onus was on ourselves to decide how we would fill our time; there simply were so many options to choose from, especially around the Lake Bohinj area. Myself and my girlfriend thoroughly enjoy trekking, more so when surrounded by such fantastic scenery and there are so many different trails either running along the tops of the surrounding mountains, or venturing down into the valleys branching off from the lake.

The tour manager was always on hand to offer suggestions from walks to more extreme activities like para-gliding or canyoning which we also tried; fantastically cold water hits you on your first jump which is only about 3meters, but it certainly gets a little more hairy the further down the gorge you go and the cold water is soon forgotten when you confront a drop of 5m which you must jump out to whilst missing the enormous boulder sitting directly above your landing point!

The tour then finished off for a full day relaxing around the old Venetian town of Piran on the coast. Still partially surrounded by the original city walls, it is a maze of cobbled back streets up to the church which overlooks the whole town - which isn't that big, so keeping it all a lot cosier.

This was a real mix of a tour that didn't have the usual hustle of a guide telling you to do this and that. Other than a nightly talk over dinner and a Q&A session in the morning to make sure we were all set for the day the leader was friendly and attentive to our needs. His use of morning songs however to wake us up on some days was a little questionable!
