Lifejacket Adventures

Over a long weekend we flew from London to Split.

On Friday, when we arrived, Shane from Lifejacket Adventures, met us at the airport and took us to our accommodation, Zephyrus Apartments, which are beautiful, in an old area of town called Varos.

We were introduced to Jasminka, a local art historian, who gave us a guided tour of the 4th Century ruins of Emperor Diocletian's retirement palace, which forms the centre of Split. Following the tour we went to a hidden local wine bar and tasted the best of the under-appreciated Croatian wines.

On Saturday, we spend a wonderful day on Lifejacket's boat, the Gajeta Falkusa, Comeza-Liboa on a trip to Brac Island. The Captain of the boat, Petar, is Skipper, Guide, Chef, Serenader and Philosopher. He prepared a 3 course meal of all local fish, which was marinated, grilled and served in an excellent stew.

On arrival on Brac Island, we jumped off the boat and hiked to the 16th Century monastery of Blaca.

The day ended after lunch with a swim and an evening cruise back to Split.

On Sunday, another form of traditional meal was prepared for us, Lamb Ispod Peke, which is Lamb cooked under an iron dome. After a huge meal we had an opportunity to explore Split on our own, there are numerous inexpensive shoe stores to visit.

Shane delivered us back to the airport early on Monday completely satisfied.
