Had them repair rotting French windows. Did a good job, was cheap and cleared up. He cut out the old wood and inserted new, putting hardener on some pieces and painting (priming) the work he'd done. The only improvement I'd suggest - specify the whole job and he'll come back and do it. A lock didn't fit well (they do now, I refitted it) but I didn't mention it at the time so it didn't get done.
