First Tldi Tohatsu

i had a 40hp carburated tohatsu, i traded it for the tldi when the first one hit the market, i think it was back in 2006(not sure) but it is now june 2012. the first thing i noticed about it over the carburated, is how much quieter it is, and it is a lot smoother running, far as power goes, i think the caburated mtr, had more, certainly not less, but that does not matter to me, i rarely run a outboard wide open. on a 16 ft mirror craft tiller, it will do about 35mph, since i fish mostily flowages i am pretty cautious about hitting stumps etc. another thing i like this mtr over the carb model, is the shift lever is in front of the mtr, a much improvement. i guess time will tell on the computer brained running of this mtr. i have had it for about 6 yrs, use it about 8 weeks out of the yr, and so far, i could not be happier with it, the only negative thing i can say about it is the shroud fits extremely tight, and u must use caution to make sure u don't pull wires off, but u do not have to pull the shroud off very often, the oil injection tank is fillable from the top of the mtr, just flip the little lid on the shroud. this mtr comes with a tilt trim, works excellent, i had a nissan(same as tohatsu) 4 stroke. i think it was a 9.5 hp, that was a vibrating piece of junk, no 4 strokes 4 me, i sold the thing and bought a 1970 johnson 7.5 hp, runs like a charm. i have never seen a small 4 stroke that was smooth running, honda probably the best, but there old 2 strokes were better. if u are going to buy a 40hp, i don,t think u can go wrong buying the tohatsu, i see omc have similar motors in there etec series, personally i can not see hanging a mtr the size of a school bus on the back of my boat, such as the 4 strokes.my email [email protected]
