The Yukon Nvmt2 Is A Lovely Light Weight, Durable
The Yukon NVMT2 is a lovely light weight, durable night vision monocular with highly impressive performance, both under moon/starlight and the built in illuminator. Being the waterproof version, the buttons are nothing like as positive and easy to use as the non-waterproof version as they have an extra rubber seal over the top.
Optically the performance is really good, once it is in focus. Unlike the non-wp, the objective lens is stiff which means it doesnt go out of focus as soon as you put it down. If you hold the unit in your right hand and focus with your left, you often need to hold it upside down or else your left hand obscures the illuminator.
I've tried it behind my dayscope with no success. I use the scope for spotting rabbits at night, a task at which it excels. The 3x magnification is just right (Yukon also sell 1x which I have tried, 2x and 4x). [People who know better than me say 4x is pushing it with gen1 NV.]
I'm delighted with the unit, its appearance, price and particularly the performance. Lets hope it lasts well and doesnt chew batteries, I'll keep you all posted
This model went out of production in 2009.
It is now superceded by the Yukon Spartan 3x42WP. This unit has the same internal characteristics, except it has had a performance upgrade that almost doubles its working range.
The Spartan series has a ridged finish to its body and sports the letter Y.
