Shimano Quality And Engineering Just As You Would
Shimano quality and engineering just as you would expect from this price range. The Shimano Super GTM 4000 RA reel is super smooth in use and with its fast retrieve rate is perfect when fishing snaggy ground. The aluminium deep spool has a huge capacity and casts fairly well. The carbon match spool also supplied is not as smmoth in use and can be a little glitchy. However that aside this spol casts brilliantly and because of its larger diameter shallow spool has a fantastic retieve. The fighting drag is super smooth even under pressure from really big fish where the instantly controllable drag makes the difference as the fish tires. A brilliant reel in use only marred by that glitchy spool.
I am at the close of my second season with the Shimano Super GTM reel which has taken some big fish and handled twelve and a half pound fighting rainbow trout with ease. The glitchy carbon spool has been replaced by a second aluminium one and allthough I miss the speed of the retrieve from that spool the aluminium spool correctly loaded is proving to be just as effective. The reel has handled all the bashes and bangs of rocky work, being dragged through mud and sand when one of my fishing colleagues caught in the line while it was in the rest ready for use and total immersion when he fell in retreiving it:-). After a good clean it was as good as new and never lets me down. A tad pricy? not now for the continued hard service it has given in scenarios where I have seen other reels fail. I look forward to many more seasons of use and would not hesitate to reccomment the reel to other anglers who want reliability and quality.
