Sweethorpe Loughs Is A Stillwater Fishery Situated
Sweethorpe Loughs is a stillwater fishery situated at Harle Northumberland. It is easily accessed from the A68 and A697 and is well signposted. It consists of two loughs one of 12 acres and the other 140 acres holding a mixture of Rainbow and blue trout. There are also some wild brown trout in the larger lough which are catch and release only. There is a caravan site and two stone cottages for rent. The fishery is well maintained and the staff are very helpful. There are 20 boats for hire to fish the great lough as well as bank fishing. The boats are of decent size and life preservers are provided with instruction on how to use them. The boats are not powered and unless you have your own motor have to be rowed to the areas you wish to fish. However the cost of hire at £10 per 8 hr session is more than reasonable. There is wheelchair access to the boats. The great lough has a good mix of terrain from shallow shales, weeded areas and deep sections. Allthough slightly exposed to the elements in places the Lough was a joy to fish with brown trout being taken in the shallows, blue trout from the weeded areas and rainbows in all areas. All in all I found Sweethorpe to be an excellent fishing experience and reasonably priced with a 8 hour 3 fish session costing £18 and £10 boat hire. There are a number of other options available to suit most peoples fishing requirements. Sweethorpe Loughs has a good website with current up to date informatoin and price lists. Booking is not always nessasary but it is recommended especially if you want to hire one of the boats. A brilliant venue and one I will certainly visit again and reccomend to friends
