Select Fitness, Marblehead, MA

I was a client at Select Fitness in Marblehead, owned and operated by Marti Shea, for 2 years, off and on. I became frustrated with the rate of turnover of personal trainers at the facility, and stopped attending. The gym only offers personal training, there are no memberships. Not long ago the owner hired a very nice young man, whom all of the long tenured clients adored....and it seems to me, the owner was not happy about it....jealousy, in fact, seems to be the operative word. One day, after about 2 months of working with clients, he was gone. Shea had a long winded, bumbling response when asked why he wasn't around anymore, but I think we all know. Other trainers who moved on, often talked quietly about how awful the pay is for trainers at Select, which perhaps explains the high turnover rate....baffling to us when cllients pay a premium price per hour to train there. Not long before this situation, another very qualified personal trainer also decided to move on from Select for obvious financial reasons.....not to mention constantly being talked down to, right in front of clients.

My recommendation is to find a gym in Marblehead where egoes are checked at the door and trainers are paid what they deserve (because they will then treat you with respect, be comfortable, and enjoy what the do even more) It seems that at Select Fitness in Marblehead, you have to HAVE an ego to even be allowed to walk through the door.
