Extremely bad customer service, gone back on contract , which it still has not supplied me with , and now wants to charge me £250 for it .? Free removal of panels which we were told we could have twice , now cost thousands . You can't believe a word they say , they just do what they like . I just want these solar panels off the roof now.

This is the worst company ever. They lie to you to get the panels on your roof, by saying, there will be no problems re-selling house, or re mortgaging. They treat customers disgracefully.

They will not pay for scaffolding. They demanded £1000 upfront. They don't answer calls, emails. Very unhelful and unfriendly. Threatening me with court action after I was forced to employ a company at my own cost to temporarily remove the panels. Please avoide these people. Please see the dedicated facebook sites now looking to redress the balance.

We got our solar panels in 2012/2013. A lovely salesperson came and sold them to us that we would get lots of electricity/ increase value to the house/ all the bulling it up. We signed up understanding we were in a 25 year lease but we weren't concerned as we were assured that it would add value to our home and were backed by the government. 10 years on, we are left with a house we can't sell, extensive damage to the garden, guttering and roof caused by pigeons. We have had to rent the house out which we didn't want to and even though we have had several conversations telling them we don't live there and to contact us at our new address so we can liaise with tenants for servicing (which only happens if they get a problem) they still consistently send mail addressed to me to the old house. The tenants don't open it and instead once it gets to a pile I collect it. We have been fined for not being in at an appointment that we didn't arrange. We refused to pay it. We have now spent 1100 soon to be 1500 to get mesh around the panels that the birds keep getting under. Beautiful garden is ruined with all the rubbish the birds drop and random seeds. It's a constant source of stress. I need to sell the house because it's no longer financially viable to keep it with the way the interest rates are going but I can't. We even tried to sell it to a we buy any home type affair. After getting it valued by them for 70k which was under the average value but we were willing to take the cut to get rid, they came back after all the paperwork had been done and said the contract was very dodgy and would be problematic to sell on as a result. They wouldn't lower their offer because at that point I would have took lower just to get rid of this constant source of stress and said it's basically unsellable and no solicitor will pass it due to the contract. We don't have a signed by them copy of the contract. Our contract wasn't witnessed and there's several clauses in them which are the issue. I would never recommend anyone deal with this company. A shade greener are an absolute fecal matter show !

I bought the house last year and coming from Australia I thought the solar panels were a great idea. Wasn’t long before I became aware of the pigeon problem . Contacted ASG and eventually payed £700 to have netting installed. They said it might take a few weeks for the pigeons to stop coming onto the roof. It’s now almost six months and although they can’t nest under the panels , they still perch on the roof and leave a horrendous mess on my new patio and one side of the house - which I am having to constantly clean. Can’t believe after spending so much money, the problem is not resolved. Are ASG under any obligation to fix this problem?

We have recently moved into a property which already had a Solar Panel system installed on the roof of the property and we have inherited a 25 year contract with them. I have asked several technical and non technical questions over how to assess what electricity is actually being provided to the house holder but they offer no particular guidance whatsoever. I have asked for someone to come around and run me through the installation and how I can check what is being produced when but they have refused, saying only an electrician will attend and only IF there is a fault. Clearly they will have been much more attentive during the initial contract and installation phase and they will be getting the electricity generated by their own system. The also will not provide any guidance on any monitoring system such as an Owl system and just leave it to us to find a suitable monitoring system. To me they should provide the correct tools to tell me exactly on an hourly basis what electricity is being generated for use by my electrical devices. All their website tells me is how much electricity is being generated on a daily basis but, for all I know, this may all be give to the National Grid and they pocket the profits!! This is a very one sided relationship with NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT to speak of, unfortunately I have inherited this system and can see no easy way of getting out of the contract. I am massively in support of green power and am happy having a solar system installed but it SHOULD WORK FOR THE CUSTOMER and not the company. Not happy at all and I certainly would not recommend them to anyone I know who is thinking of having a solar system installed.

don’t entertain this company sums it up! shoddy workmanship have had to recall out on various occasions due to the unprofessional installation boiler was replaced 2 foot away from original boiler we were not asked if this was ok, or given explanation as to why needed to be in another position Also try to cancel calls when you have booked a day off work and waited in all day for an appointment they have booked excuse after excuse for the problems and never see same boiler engineer twice!!!
Written on: 26/08/2022
why is this company able to treat its customers like this, we had a biomass boiler fitted by them and now after 7 yrs they inform us that we now have to pay them almost 3 thousand pounds to keep the boiler and also we must show proof of correct fuel being used and a service record that the boiler is being serviced by them at a cost of hundreds of pounds, or we pay almost £80 per month to enter the maintenance contract this cost does not include any parts that could be required, this includes a callout limit of 2 visits per year after that hourly charge of almost £350 , full service is £595, we feel that we were unknowingly duped into this madness , we were told that after the period of 7 years the boiler is ours we were not the only ones to be told this , we have been conned and now the only solution that we feel is open to us is take legal action against them.

As we all knew storm Eunice and storm Franklin hit UK recently. Unfortunately, our roof tiles came off as an impact! However, we decided to change the whole roof as it is very old and similar incidents can happen again in future, we contacted the Ashade Greener in order to Remove the solar panels temporarily as it is their responsibility! When we contacted them we explained that it is leaking to the loft whenever it’s raining and they send some forms to fill out and we did it according to their request! And we arranged the roof to be changed the scaffolding are in place! Now they are saying it can be removed only in September and they can’t do anything if the roof is leaking or the house is collapsed! Only mistake we did was have lease for the solar panels that are on our roof, which we don’t benefit much! At the end of the day, company itself is making a huge profit and we are the victims! What should we do until September? So , I wouldn’t recommend Ashade Greener to any of the people the whole UK and all over the world!

I had the same problem 3 years ago. I was told they couldn't come out for 8 months. But if i paid a thousand pounds, i could have it done within a week or so. Plus i had to provide scaffolding & another thousand pounds, which would be refunded when the panels were replaced. I had a husband with advanced Altzhiemers a roof that leaked. I paid them what they asked for as i didn't know what damage was being made to my property in the meantime. I recently contacted my M.P.& he has wrote to them about 2 months ago for an explanation. as of yet ive had 3 letters from my M'P explaining that ASG have yet to reply. On our original contract it says that the panels would be taken down for alterations of the home or repair twice, free of any charge to me. I was told, they have changed the contract now, I never got any change of contract, not signed anything from starting with them. I dont have a good word for them at all.

The ASG rent a roof agreement was miss sold to all home owners as positive addition to your property In reality it de values your house, makes mortgages hard to get and selling difficult If you need ASG to remove the panels they demand money and give long lead times. Everybody wants to terminate their lease and deed over the roof space But getting this to court is difficult See FB page complaints on A Shade Greener
written by PaulaHanna481 on 24/02/2022
The installation team didn't install sufficient support in the roof to support the solar panels so the roof sagged after 5 years. We now have to pay hundreds of pounds to repair the roof and add additional support. Their customer support is poor as it took us 3 months to get their team to remove the panels. They put obstacles in the way to delay the process and give them the option to not remove the panels. Their customer service department can't do much and are unable to pass calls to the appropriate department. Their legal team deny any liability about the installation but issue legal threats if we didn't comply with their rules. All round very unsatisfactory.

Hi, your description sounds like you have finally got the panels removed. If this is so, please can you say if you did this yourself or if ASG came out and removed them ? also, did you have to pay for legal support on this matter?

We had the solar panels fitted 6 years ago. Wasn't warned about pigeons at all. Now for the past few months, we have had rain coming in through the bedroom ceiling. Asked them to fix it and we got told we would have to pay for pigeon proofing etc. When I asked them to take the panels off, I would have to pay for that to happen. Had someone come out from the company, and they said it was because of the pitch of the roof, the pigeon mess etc etc. We paid £240.00 to be told it was our problem. Terrible company all round. And we still have rain coming through. I am at a loss as what to do next. We should have been told that they attract pigeons, and can cause trouble. But the felt is all cut in the loft, which the installers did. If we had known what was going to happen, we wouldn't have got them fitted.

I started having issues with a Veissmann boiler i had installed by a shadegreener(ASG) some six years ago.I am paying monthly for this. Until now i really thought ASG was a decent outfit always doing annual services on a timely basis. However... My hot water started to run hot then cold to the point we couldnt have a bath. I called ASG and after abit of tooing and froing they sent a Veissmann engineer out. The engineer took the boiler to bits and found a large build up of sludge in the system and heat exchanger. He cleaned it best he could but advised me it would build up again. I asked him if it was normal to clog with sludhe after a power flush had been done when the boiler was fitted .. He assured me a power flush had not been carried out going off the amount of sludge present. I got copies of my contract with ASG and read in chapter 7 (7.1) that a power flush would be done prior to fitting the new boiler. It has now come to my attention that only a manual flush had been done and ASG are saying that their guys told me their reasons a manual flush was carried out and they say i agreed to this and signed the sheet. I certainly did not agree to this at all infact i had very little conversation with the men as i just let them crack on with the installation and i never hastled them at all apart from making them tea etc. At that time i wouldnt know the difference between a manual or power flush. I emailed my concerns to two managers. They basically are saying and may i add lying that i concented to the manual flush and if i want to complain go to the ombundsman. This im in the process of doing. Im both annoyed and dissapointed that they wont carry out the power flush that is needed to fix my issue as this should have been done on install. Im a dissabled army veteran and live on a hill and the weather is turning fast. I think i,ll have to fork out for a flush to keep the boiler pumps running right till this is sorted through the ombudsman. Im disgusted in this company and wish id never heard of them. If you read this complaint PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE AS THIS COMPANY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY BUT WHEN THE SYSTEM FAILS THROUGH THEIR CORNER CUTTING THEY WONT RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. I would also say ive read many complaints over the last week about ASG and some are very similar to mine and the ombudsman went on the side of the customer so fingers crossed. My issue is though i signed that sheet showing a tick in the box that a manual flush had been done... I didnt have a clue..at that time a flush is a flush to me..
Written on: 04/03/2022
They came to service mine after a year and said I needed a power flush the year after they serviced again and said it was fine 5 years down the line they told me under the agreement I needed a power flush so I paid for one then when they came to service it the guy said it didn’t need one
I also have solar panels and am selling my property they won’t answer any questions to solicitors until we pay a fee absolutely ridiculous never again god knows how much more they gonna take

Hi
I researched this company some 6/7 years ago and they had no negative comments back then. I do know they company as changed hands, maybe that's why they have so many unhappy customers, or maybe customers only realise that they are an unhelpful company only when they experience a problem. Good luck with getting your paperwork that you will need from them to sell your house.

This company has to be one of the most unethical companies I've ever come across and appears to have no accountability to any governing body. My house has leased solar panels installed by the previous owner and owned by A Shade Greener. Unfortunately the solicitor engaged when I bought the house four years ago failed to point out or warn me about any potential problems with leased solar panels. I'm a pensioner on a fixed income in remission from cancer and now need to downsize for both health and financial reasons. However, I find myself unable to sell my house (as I have a legal obligation to inform any prospective purchaser of the problem we encountered when I found a buyer last year) and there are still 17 years left on the lease. All the usual problems with mortgages were sorted out but on seeing the lease itself my buyer requested clarification on a few points, one of which was "does the solar panel company's insurance policy cover damage to the property if it's caused by their system". He was concerned about the possibility of legal disputes arising should the solar panel system cause damage to the property/contents. There's a clause in the lease saying the Tenant (ASG (F7)) must supply the Landlord (homeowner) with details of their insurance so we requested that from them. They sent summary sheets showing Public Liability and Employers Liability insurance in the name of another ASG company, ASG Maintenance, and despite repeated requests from my solicitor and from myself to provide more information to answer my buyer's question they steadfastly refused to do so. They also refused to make a simple written statement stating whether or not they held insurance that would cover damage to the property if it was caused by “the system” or to do anything to help the situation despite knowing that the house sale was about to collapse because of this issue. For that sole reason my buyer then withdrew from the house purchase on his solicitor's advice because of possible future legal disputes concerning insurance liability despite loving the house and waiting six months for the sale to go through. A Shade Greener are listed as members of the RECC (Renewable Energy Consumer Code) so I contacted them in the hopes of resolving the problem via their dispute resolution team. However, it turns out that there are over 60 different ASG companies and none of them involved with my lease are registered with the RECC so they have no requirement to follow any code of conduct. It appears that ASG don't hold insurance to cover any damage to my home and/or contents if caused by their solar panel system and my homeowners insurance doesn't cover it either as the panels are not owned by me. Their best advice was to take out as much insurance as possible including legal expenses and basically hope for the best and be prepared for a possible legal dispute. I have since heard that this scenario did actually happen to someone and they couldn't make any claim for their loss. So I'm faced with the prospect of spending the next 17 years living in a house that I can't afford to run that's potentially uninsured anyway. This really shouldn't be happening in 21st century Britain.

Hello,
Have you made any progress with ASG? Have you managed to sell the house? I an in exactly the same position.
Written on: 10/01/2022
Hello
Bad news first .. no progress with ASG themselves as they remained stubbornly uncooperative despite my solicitor confirming they'd broken the terms of the lease and demanding they provide insurance details. They basically just aid "take us to court" which would obviously be very costly.
However .. there's a Facebook group called A Shade Greener Complaints that I belonged to and someone there posted a link to a template letter drawn up by the Council of Mortgage Lenders and the Building Society Assoc which runs alongside the lease and a mortgage and requires ASG (or any solar panel owners) to agree that they're liable for any damage that their system might cause to the property.
So my solution was to sell my property to someone who required a mortgage, inform them of the situation and then let them have the information about the letter so that they could get ASG to confirm that they would cover the insurance liability.
Good luck!

Written on: 17/02/2022
Hi Shazzey555
I'm pleased to hear that your lease states that if you can provide proof that a house sale falls through twice due to the panels then they'll remove them.
Two thoughts: firstly, it didn't say that on my lease so it wasn't an option for me and secondly, I would expect that it would prove extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get ASG to remove the panels without resorting to long and costly legal action. They just don't seem to care if they break the terms of the lease whilst they're raking in the feed-in tariff profits. They know that very few people would be prepared to launch legal action mostly due to the cost.
They broke the terms of my lease but when challenged they just basically said "take us to court".
One thing ASG are very good at is writing leases that are watertight and advantageous for them and but disadvantage the home owner.

Had my solar panels for several years without a problem. But now have several pigeons living under the panels themself. Emailed ASG,about problem, they asked for a detailed letter, which we wrote and asked for pigeon guards, ASG then wrote saying they can fit pigeon guards at a cost to me,£450+vat,they said that if the fitters where round in the area they might be able to fit them, without going down the route of scaffolding,we exsplained that it's because of there product that this has arose, and is causing me and my family distress,I can not sleep, for the cooing, and 5am it all starts again, not to mention the mess, which carry many diseases, this I also put in the letter, but I just got a box standerd letter back saying pigeons only make residents if there is a goodfood source, which is a load of rubbish, they also forgot to mention, that solar panels make very good habit for them to nest,I've also found out that ASG didn't get permission from the local authority, which the sale rep said they would deal with everything.im needing some kind of help to deal with this horrible company.
Written on: 29/07/2021
I've had the same issue mate, I myself contacted ASG and the response I received and the attitude I got from them absolutely stinks, oh yeah they quoted me about £1500 to deal with the issue via fitting mesh etc.
I would never have got involved with them if I had known how much disregard they have for the mugs putting money into their account.
I agoing to carry out an evaluation of how much these panels have actually saved me and let's just see?
Written on: 23/08/2022
I have the same exact problem with pigeons.
I had a company fit mesh around the whole perimeter of the panels, unknowingly to me there was a 4 inch gap running along the lower row to next row above, allowing the pigeons to get back in and nest.
I contacted their customer service, which are useless. They explained I had to write to head office with a description and photo.
I got a reply saying there panels have been fitted correctly and won't accept blame.
They offered me a price for mesh to be fitted £250,I just can't get it into their thick heads that process has been done. They just won't accept their fitting is at fault.
I will be taking this further as it is very distressing.
Written on: 23/08/2021
In exactly the same position re pigeons but I am disabled and low income and cannot afford to have pigeons removed and their panels protected so the panels will continue to be damaged by the birds. Its only a matter of time before the wiring is damaged by the acid in the bird faeces.

I have been a good customer of this company for over 5yrs. Today they refused to service my boiler because I have no loft ladder. At no point in the past 5yrs has this been a requirement even on the day of installation, and no warning has ever been given this is a requirement. Customer service were absolutely immoveable and won't visit until a ladder is fitted. They seem to change their terms whenever they want and don't tell the customer. Happy customer now an angry customer, well done. Update. I complained to Gas Safe who have confirmed ASG disregarded building regulations during the installation of said boiler. Don't use this company not to be trusted.

OPEN LETTER DATED 18/6/2020 TO THE DIRECTORS OF A SHADE GREENER LTD - (Hard copy has been sent to head office) I am writing in this public way because it has been impossible to obtain direct email addresses or telephone numbers for you, which would have given me the opportunity to reach out to you privately. When asked, no member of ASG customer service staff would provide me with same. I did write to each of you individually at your head office address on 10/2/2020, but have never received the courtesy of a reply or acknowledgement of my letters by you, or anyone acting on your behalf. The letters were sent by ‘signed for’ delivery and each one reached their destination and were signed for on delivery. Whether the letters were passed to their intended recipients I do not know. My problem with A Shade Greener started in October 2019 and only now, 18 June 2020 has it finally been resolved. I have written 3 reviews on the Trustpilot’s review site giving full details of my situation and have also written a review on ASG’s own website. I write this to voice my disgust at the way things were handled by your company. My journey has been a very long and unpleasant one. The majority of staff who have dealt with me have been unfriendly, without empathy and often plain rude. That seems to be the culture at ASG. All along I’ve had negative and obstructive treatment by your customer service people and also your complaints department. One more insult came yesterday when I requested my £1000 back and was told I’d have to wait for you to receive a meter reading first, to see if the panels are working properly. That is totally irrelevant to me, I kept my side of the bargain. I paid you the £1000 ‘bond’, provided scaffolding and allowed you to put the panels back. Yet more disgraceful, but not unexpected, treatment. I’ve no idea if this letter will be brought to your attention. Would you take the time to see for yourselves what I’ve been through? Would you care anyway? I think probably not. There are literally hundreds of negative reviews of ASG all over the Internet so I’m clearly not alone in my opinion, and yet your customers are still getting the same disgusting, immoral treatment. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

It seems to me there are thousands of us with the same complaints/problems, i.e. pigeons, roof leaks and roof replacement etc. I am also in the same boat.
I wanted to know why they need £1000.00 deposit (refundable). They told me " It was because customers refused to have the panels refitted". WOW there's a surprise.
Having considered this matter, I can see only 2 courses of action.
1 We all get together, not difficult now with the internet, and pool our financial resources and take joint legal action against this company. We can't all be wrong. Especially with a massive 1.3 star rating.
2 Organize a PEACEFUL protest outside the homes of directors.
At the very least it would let the neighbours know how they earn their massive salaries and bonuses, i.e. at the expense, pain and suffering of the customer.
Furthermore, I don't understand how the customer service teams can live with the shame of their own disgusting behaviour. I would rather sign on, than be so rude and abusive. Still I suppose it takes all kinds.

Theirsa group on facebook not sure if you know its called A Shade Greener-Issues and Complaints.
written by greybits on 17/03/2020
A Shade Greener refused to remove the panels when I needed to repair my roof, because I wouldn't agree to pay for scaffold for them, or provide tiles, or give them a £1000 refundable deposit. It states they will do it free of charge in the lease agreement. I ended up having the panels removed by a separate firm so I could fix my roof. Now ASG are threatening to sue me for the loss of FIT if I don't let them put them back on. Is anyone else in a similar predicament?
Written on: 15/08/2020
Have they taken any action against you yet?
Written on: 15/08/2020
No, not yet.

Any developments yet?

I had to put them back on, but ASG had to do it for free, as stated in the lease agreement.
ASG wouldn't have had a leg to stand on re: refusing to remove them without the £1000 deposit etc. as their demands were unlawful. My solicitor pointed this out to them and their was no arguement after that.
I put myself in a weaker position legally by removing them, so fighting to keep them off would have been expensive and not a certain win.

I am in a similiar position and asked for a copy of the Lease agreement which they will NOT provide until I pay £180!!!
Would you be kind enough to share a copy of your agreement in order to forward to my solicitor before I decide on my next action?

We’ve had the same problem with them, my parents roof was caving in and they said if I organised scaffolding and gave them a deposit of £1000 they would take panels down and replace them when the roof was fixed, I organised scaffolding and phoned to pay deposit then they told me they had no one available for another year, what a complete joke, water coming through the ceiling and they couldn’t help us, they said they could recommend a third party but I would have to pay them separately, I’ve taken them down and had roof completely replaced and the panels fitted back on and are all working, now they want to come and inspect them at my 76 year olds mothers cost, they are now saying they are going to sue her, she has got really bad health problems and this is just making it worse is there anyone she can contact to get advice?

sorry for late reply. I couldn't find your comment when notified of it.
Speak with a solicitor. They will provide basic advice for free generally.
There are workshops where solicitors do pro bono work too. Look up free legal advice on google.

Hi,
Sorry to about tour problem.
With regard to your testing problem. Do you still have the paperwork left on completion of original installation? If you do there should be 2 sheets. One is schedule of inspection and the other is schedule of test results. Were they filled in by the electrician at the time of installation? These documents should have been completed on completion of original installation. This is called Initial Verification and should have been completed before the circuit is connected to the electricity supply. There are a couple of tests that can only be carried out when the new installation is connected to the electricity supply. But, the " dead " tests must be carried out first. Please check to see if yours was ever filled in (must be completed by a competent person).

I'm in same position, I have no light in my daughters room and leaks above my room.
I have a builder coming on the 16th Nov. And all I got from asg is we cannot remove them yet and will contact you in due course when a date is available.
I was thinking of getting my roofer too remove and replace. Do you think I can?
Written on: 10/11/2020
If you do, you'll be in breach of the lease agreement. like I was, and it will put you in a position of weakness and legal difficulty.
ASG can't demand £1000 deposit or expect you to buy them tiles- that's unlawful - but they can expect you to agree a timeframe. However, they do have to remove the panels for you within a reasonable time, say 3 months maximum.
If you can't wait that long, and the panels are removed/replaced with no damage done or reduction in their ability to create electric for ASG, then you stand less chance of being sued, as ASG just care about the money.
But if there is any loss of revenue for them, they will have the upper hand in any legal proceedings.

Thanks for responding, an update on my situation, asg now want £2000. £1000 bond and £1000 to get an earlier appointment as apparently they are booked up until Nov 2021. That is definitely not a reasonable amount of time. I've refused to pay and have sent them a breach of contract letter. Signed for and via email.
My roofer is going to do the panel free side (which is above my daughters room)
Then tarpaulin the rest while we wait on Asg.

They cannot, no matter what they say, unilaterally change the agreement and refuse to do the work due to you not agreeing to the £1000 bond.
You do not have to pay a bond unless it is in the lease agreement.
As for them saying they are booked for a year, that is preposterous. It's so you pay £1000 for a an earlier appointment (that they don't have apparently - otherwise they could do it for you earlier).
Unfortunately the only way to solve is is by getting legal representation, which could cost you as much as the bond would have.
The good thing is you haven't done what I have, so you'll be in a much stronger position.
My solicitor was at BRM Law in Chesterfield.

I thought exactly that about the appointments, that they are trying to scare people into paying the extra. I've got my local mp involved too. I don't mind paying the bond and letting them put then back up, I just want them removed sooner.
I would rather have them removed indefinitely, but I doubt I'll win. But I will try. I know it may cost more but its principle, they should not be allowed to bully people like they are.

One solicitor I recieved advice from said 'Principles cost money'.
You will not succeed removing them for good as the contract has not been breached. Trust me, I tried very hard.
You would have to offer them an amount which would recompense their loss of FIT for the remainder of the lease.
You could seek legal representation to speed up the removal etc as it's an obvious scam, and 1 year wait is ridiculous.
They organised everything to reinstate the panels within 3 weeks after my solicitor had explained things to them, so it's obviously possible.
Good luck!

I have had no response from asg, royal mail said that the address is not registered so they cannot deliver.
did they actually start any court proceedings against you?
did you have too pay any costs for loss of fit?
Written on: 27/11/2020
I was advised to send two letters...one by registered signed for, and one standard. They eventually wouldn't sign for my letters, but royal mail will just post them if they don't need a signature.
No they never started, just threatened.
You wouldn't need to if the panels were reinstated within 3 months.
I didn't.
