“Should be great, but...”

The machine worked for about three hours' sewing on the day of purchase then stopped with "PF" message on LED. The trouble-shooting page in the handbook made no reference to this, so after a search online, it appears to mean "Power Failure" which is a terminal problem. The warranty details give a phone number in Kent but the office is only open Monday to Thursday, 9.00 am till 3.00 pm (Why? What about Fridays?). Oft to retailer today (Saturday) to return machine.

What a great sewing machine! Having not used a sewing machine since my teenage years I was delighted when I given the AEG 680 as a gift. The instruction manuel is extremely easy to understand and made setting up the bobbin and threading so simple I was able to begin sewing in minutes. I love the computerized stitch selection and it's so easy to pick your stitches and change the width/length, and with so many pretty stitches available I can become quite creative. The machine is light and easy to carry around which is perfect for me as I use this on the kitchen table. I have made several items with various fabrics since owning this machine with no problems, and I have been supplied with a good selection of feet in the accessories. I would recommend this machine to anyone from beginners to experienced sewers - it gives a professional finish and is simple and easy to use with a huge amount of features at the press of a button!

“Notes from a Professional.”

I needed a machine that would cope with all sorts of fabrics as i make theatre/ opera/ TV/ and film costumes. This one was one that caught my eye. I have never had a digital machine before so was willing to give it a go. Can not find any real faults with it just a few little niggles, The first and main one is the position of the reverse button. Most of the time when i sew i am not in the habit of looking for the reverse button as it tends to be by itself somewhere on the machine but on this one it is positioned between 2 other buttons....which i kept hitting by mistake. The other niggle was the fact that i could not sew and wind the bobbin at the same time. Only small things but time wasters. Never had a machine that has all the fancy stitches on it either and i found this great fun to play with and loved the effect of the sewing. Did get very excited about the eyelet sewer but as of yet have not managed to control it enough...so will still have to do by hand. All in all i think the AEG 680 machine is excellent and i would highly recommend it.

This is a great domestic machine that preforms well and i have had very few problems whilst stiching various fabrics There are a few niggles but again these aremainly operator error and not the machines Some reviews mention the looks i maintain that this js not an ornament but a functioning workhorse the only downside so far is customer support for example I wanted to by a bias binding foot for it (most of the shop suggested that i use a universal snap in tgat mAy or may not fit) So rather than take a chance i contacted aeg support who e mailed me back to say that they had no information on this machine and to contact the retail outlet where the machine was bought from.but as this was a chain they suggested i contact aeg.All my lifes a circle huh I have since been informed that all toyota rs 2000 feet fit it or the janome cat a Apart from support i recommend this machine

“Lots of stitch options, consistent tension, great machine”

★★★★★

written by angelawilliams on 22/12/2011

I started to work with this machine with some trepidation – I was a bit wary about using a machine with so many options. However, I was pleasantly surprised. In general, I found the instructions easy to follow, navigated between the various stitch options without difficulty, and managed to produce a couple of very presentable buttonholes. The thread never got stuck, and tension remained consistent throughout. The huge variety of stitch patterns available is impressive, and I liked the five different ways of making a button hole. The instruction book was clear, (in spite of some of the slightly odd use of English in translation) and relating the diagrams to the buttons on the machine was reasonably easy. The free arm option I can see being useful. Although I am used to controlling a sewing machine with a foot pedal, the easy accessibility of the stop start switch meant that you didn’t necessarily have to use it. Any niggles I have with the AEG 680 sewing machine are few and minor. I never managed to get the needle threader to work. I found that fitting the lower bobbin was a bit fiddly, and I wasn’t that successful with blind hemming – the stitches did not seem to catch the upper fold of the fabric consistently. Some of these difficulties may well be resolved as I get used to the machine. It is not quite as attractive as some machines I have seen (not really a pleasure to look at) , and some of the actions were far from instinctive. For instance, it did take me some time to work out how to open the accessories box, and I had to use the instruction book a little more than I might have done to find buttons and levers. With AEG's tradition as a pioneer in functional but elegant industrial design going back over a century I feel that a little more thought could be put into producing something that is less clunky and more user friendly. The fabric cover could benefit particularly from a re-design – it would be nice if you didn’t have to remove the cover to lift up the handle. All in all, however, the AEG 680 is a great machine and good value for money.

“AEG680 Computerized Sewing Machine - sews great,...”

I received this machine as a gift and while I had not seen AEG sewing machines before, I have been over the moon with the 680. It is light weight and very easy to handle. Its computerised screen makes selecting stitch programmes quick and easy and the stitches are programmed to the correct tension. It has some lovely embroidery stitches to choose from which have been very useful as I have been recently making items for my daughters bedroom. The user manual was easy to follow as was threading the machine. I would recommend this machine to friends and family, it comes with lots of accessories. Just a shame it only has a soft cover and not a hard one
