They force you to sign an agreement with an finance company, if not they will cancel your insurance and not return your money you paid upfront, which is enough to cover 2 moths inurance.

“Do not use. Greedy company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SusyQ757 on 23/06/2023

Really bad company. I have used for few years but my policy was due for renewal on 6th June 2023. However I had entered the car for sale in auction on 10th June 23 so had to go ahead with the insurance even though unsure that if the car sold I would need to cancel. The car sold and waited until all paperwork and payment received. I received the payment today 23rd June 23 so cancelled online. I received an email with attached letter to say I was owed £91.86 but with a cancellation fee of £55 I would receive £36.86. This is really unfair as the days I covered were only 13 days. A decent company I am sure would have been more lenient. I have read all the other reviews and I am going to take this further.

“Avoid Avoid Avoid”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/11/2021

I chose this broker because it came up the cheapest on a comparison site for van insurance. After I paid for the insurance (in the evening) a notice flagged up that they need to speak to me before they send the policy out to make sure its correct. An agent rang me promptly at 9am and started to try to upsell. First he tried to upsell on our stated mileage. Then I was told that "business use" does not cover carrying of our own goods and unless I pay another £76 for delivery use, the policy is void if we ever use the van to deliver any of our own produce anywhere other than to our own place of work. I have checked with my previous insurer: carrying our own goods was always covered under business use, regardless where we were carrying it to. Delivery policies are for people who carry other peoples goods for gain. I decided that I don't want to do business with this broker and ask for a refund. He is now trying to charge £55 cancellation fee although the commencement date of the policy quoted was 3 days in the future, and he cunningly put the cancellation date one day past the future commencement date. I checked with other brokers, none charge cancellation for a policy that hasn't commenced! Save yourself the hassle - don't deal with them.

“I took insurance out on the 30/11/2019, unfortunately,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Enigma0999 on 13/01/2021

I took insurance out on the 30/11/2019, unfortunately, I was in an accident days later and by the end of December, the bike was written off so I had 1 days insurance for over £200. Fast forward to 30/11/2020 it seems they auto-renewed the policy even though the bike was destroyed and I received no email no letter and never asked for it leaving me another £200 out of pocket. In over 10 years with different insurance companies, I have never had this problem. so I will not be using any to do with grove&dean again. Stay away from these people because not only could this happen to you you will be passed pillar to post with so many company and brokers.

“Shocking! Greedy company! I paid for a years...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dalej35 on 10/11/2020

Shocking! Greedy company! I paid for a years insurance up front, then sold my van 4 months before the end of the term. Expecting my 4 months back minus the cancellation fee which with any other company this would be the case! I was told they were doing me a favour and cancelling the fee, we would call it quits and I wouldn’t be charged anything but I also wouldn’t be getting my 4 months back! I argued on the phone that if I was paying monthly, the payments would have ceased and I would have only had a £60 cancellation fee. Top and bottom of it is they have stollen £140 from me. Do not use this company!

“Excessive charges without explanation ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MikeSalter62 on 02/04/2020

Cancelled a policy because I sold a car. Broker paid back £101 but Performance Direct took £55 as a cancellation fee. All they could say is it’s in the small print. So they conceal costs in small print then hit you at first opportunity. No explanation why they charge this much for a 5 min phone call, just profiteering. AVOID. Nothing to recommend them.

“Performance Direct -- do not use - be warned”

★☆☆☆☆

written by paulma on 22/03/2020

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY ! Please everyone be warned. What seems like a good price online is just a hook to try and trap you in a policy you cannot easily get out of and they can then try and charge you lots of extra fees for spurious reasons, becuase supposedly its in their small print. I paid £129 online and thought that was it like any other insurance company. But then within a hour I received an email and phone call from them stating they would not send any insurance documents to customers until they had spoke to them. When I called the man kept me on the line for 30 mins, kept going on mute and leaving music playing for no reason.. He asked if i knew all the terms of the policy and i asked him to tell me if anything unusual and he wouldnt tell and kept avoiding the question. He then tried to charge me an extra £48 extra if i kept my car on my drive for 1 night during the year. He kept trying to charge me repeatedly for changes to my policy i did not want. I finally had enough of it and said i wanted to cancel and he told me I couldnt without £55 charge despite my policy only being active less than 2hrs. He told me he was doing a favour and giving me a discount on cancelling, because they normally charge £75. I'm trapped - please beware and avoid this company.

“No Customer Service”

written by Johnvincent on 23/09/2019

Received an email to say they needed to speak with me but tried twice. 1st time waited over 20 minutes on hold without answer. 2nd time gave up after 12 minutes. Take your business somewhere else, they obviously don’t need mine or yours.

“Horrible company to deal with”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LukeMcKee on 16/12/2018

Horrible company to deal with. I hope I never have to claim through Performance Direct as I'm sure it would be an absolute nightmare. I think their main problem is their call centre.  I tried to get my insurance sorted near the end of the day and got it paid for etc, then was being transferred through to their legal department to listen to the policy wording which is a requirement before the insurance is valid. Ended up losing signal while I was on hold so the line dropped, and when I phoned back they were closed... Fair enough, waited until the next day. Spoke to an advisor and gave him my details and asked for a call back from the legal department for the completion of the policy. The advisor seemed very distracted throughout and I got placed on hold without him actually saying why. Now comes another terrible point about this company/call centre... Whilst you're on hold, you have to press 1 to keep holding anywhere from every 1 to 4 minutes, or it cuts you off. As I did not ask the advisor to put me on hold and he did not tell me he was going to do this, I decided to hang up and phone back and hopefully get someone a little more competent who would arrange the call back. But what-do-you-know... I got the same advisor again, quite a recognisable voice and the same name. I asked him why he put me on hold without saying anything and he said he has never spoken to me before. This is the gold that I have recorded, and other potential customers can judge for themselves, as I shall be uploading it to YouTube and other forms of social media in the coming days to name and shame this shambles of a company. I already gave a manager in the call centre the opportunity to deal with my complaint but I never heard anything back disappointingly, which is why I'm here on Review Centre. As well as this happening, when I sent them my No Claims Bonus proof from my previous insurer, there was no acknowledgment, and then a 'final demand' style email later saying I still hadn't provided it. I phoned the dreaded call centre again to ask what the issue was as I had already provided it and they said that I needed to provide either a 2018 renewal or proof letter. I said that's what I did, so the advisor put me on hold again and came back saying 'oh yes that's fine'. So someone had made a mistake there.

“Absolute Nonsese”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SolomonHill on 06/12/2018

They go through what you tell them in the online form, then find something that needs changing and tell you a ridiculous premium increase, you say no thats too much I will cancel right away, but there is a fee. So I was charged for filling the form and cancelling right away. Of course they take your money right away. Then its up to them to refund you the rest which they are not rushing to do. Absolutely disgusted.

“Avoid at all costs. Truly appalling. Contacting...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/04/2018

Truly appalling service. Unhelpful, uninformed staff. Failure to stand by statements made by their employees (or perhaps just lying). Request information that I have never before been asked for by any insurer and when I explain that I cannot provide the information because on of the insured parties is abroad they cancel the policy and charge 80% of policy cost.

“Worse than awful”

written by MaxMacMillan20 on 16/02/2018

Tried to transfer policy from one car to another two months after taking out a policy for a year. £50 admin charge required and then from annual premium of £320 that I paid I was told that there would be £36 left to apply to the next vehicle. Avoid these people like the plague

“AVOID AT ALL COSTS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED”

★☆☆☆☆

written by stevebagman1 on 04/11/2017

AVOID AT ALL COSTS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED They may come up with one of the lowest quotes, on the comparison sites. BUT PLEASE NO NOT BE FOOLED, 1. iF you sell your car and cancel or transfer the insurance policy. It will cost you £50 2. If you change address it will cost you £50 3. If you want to add/remove names driver it will cost you £50 AND IF, LIKE ME You pay upfront for the full year, then sell the car, they take £50+ they do not give you all the unused months balance you paid and....... You will be waiting at least 30 days to get the balance back. I have now been waiting over 30 days and STILL waiting my refunded balance.

“DO NOT USE APPALLING”

★☆☆☆☆

written by fbGeorge456 on 18/10/2017

CHARGED ME FOR NOTHING! I made a payment online to confirm car insurance with performancedirect.co.uk. on GoCompare - in order to confirm it they sent me an email with a number to ring. when I eventually managed to get through to them they told me one of the items I had noted on the form was incorrect (for a parked garage) they said this meant I would need a different insurance policy and I asked them to get me another quote they said the only quote they could get was £2000!!! the initial quote was £316. They then told me they would charge my card £50 for making the mistake on the form (stating my car was in a garage - which it is and other insurers accept) because I did not want to go with the £2000 insurance. This is clearly a rip off service never in my life have I had this experience with an insurance company. They claim the £50 charge was for creating the policy which was computer generated via go compare website.

“Do Not Use Performance Direct”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 27/09/2017

Made a slight mistake on the online form then when I phoned them the quote went up by £100. I had already paid so I asked to cancel, so they said there was a £50 cancellation fee, a proper rip off. I have since got the insurance for £120 cheaper so beware. I also spoke to a manager there and he was the most obnoxious person I have spoken to over the phone. Rip off company BEWARE

What a shower, Quoted cheapest Insurance then after I'd paid required my DVLA Check Code Number ? I'm 66 and have NEVER been asked for this before. So I cancelled, 20 minutes later...OH NO, they charged me £55 for the privilege! I am now reporting them to The Insurance Ombudsman re the 14 day cooling off period. What a bunch of Cxzwx this lot are. DO NOT USE. Further, try phoning them, set aside 15 minutes waiting for them to pick up.

“Best Avoided”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ZacherySmith67 on 01/07/2017

Having chosen this company on price, I completed the application and paid the premium in full. Over a week later, they asked for NCD proof which I submitted. And then had to re-submit as they could not find it. A further week passed, and I was approached for more information, despite having sent them everything I had on the policy request. Eventually, they said the insurer could not cover the vehicle after all, and advised me to apply again. I did - elsewhere. And my cover is up and running. Now they write to say my refund is tiny, thanks to their charges. All in all - a frustrating and useless episode. Avoid this shower. They are useless.

“AVOID AT ALL COST - SHOCKING”

★☆☆☆☆

written by kamma22 on 20/06/2017

Performance Direct increased the initial quote by more than £200. Once purchased we moved to a different postcode and PD wanted additional £200. we cancelled the policy expecting a refund of at least £170 (which included deduction of admin fees and 20% off premium , which is a rip off in itself) but were told by the person I dealt with (extremely rude individual) that as it is a classic car, the underwriter is keeping the full premium. This is not stated anywhere in Performance Direct T&Cs which were issued to us. Performance Direct agreed to refund £13 which is a joke. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. Bunch of scavengers.

Has anyone had any luck the the £55 cancellation fee? I cancelled with the 15 day period which stated in the booklet was a FULL refund. I now do not have access to any of the documents if anyone is able to forward me the policy booklet? All they keep saying is it's our policy. But I now cannot prove what it said in the booklet.
