Marantz SR 5200 - £399 GB. .
Big brother to the highly recommended SR 4200. This receiver gives a clear, open sound for movies and music alike with its greater power and more features than its smaller sibling making it worth the extra £100 investment. Various surround modes, including 'Dolby Pro-Logic 2' which gives new life to VHS or ANY sterio input (Music included, Classical or Dance) This has enough power to drive almost all speakers (90Wpc RMS) whilst keeping firmly in controll…

I am running the little brother, very pleased, the 4200 uses the same remote control, it's a pig ugly thing and the amps menu can be a struggle to navigate. However that aside, at last a musical home cinema amp. But only through the analogue inputs.

I have the same 'problem' with the Source-direct mode and the subwoofer-output. I think this is working as it should be and that the contents of the manual + the contents of the OSD are incorrect. However, I've sold my subwoofer recently and bought a pair of floorstanders (mission 775), so I don't have this problem anymore.

By the way, I think this is a very good amp, but there are 2 things that can be considered as a minor annoyance:
1) the receiver has a non user-friendly remote(look at it - it's just stupid).
2) the sound is good, but sometimes I miss just a bit of extra (or deeper) bass. Those Mission's are large enough to ensure a good bass output, that could not be the problem. Maybe I'm spoiled by the Magnat sub I recently own. Although bass is a lacking a bit, it is well defined and with lots of detail. That is a big plus (the magnat sub used to just put out enormous masses of bass energy. Every song/movie was always full of bass - maybe to much after all...)

I'm considering upgrading to a larger amplifier to connect to the pre-outs of the Marantz. Anyone have experience with that?

I have recently connected my Marantz SR5200 to an active subwoofer, using SUBWOOFER (PRE-OUT) output. Unfortunately, I have noticed the following problem: when I use S(SOURCE)-DIRECT mode of operation, no signal is present in the SUBWOOFER output. Does any of you has faced a similar problem? Is there any solution to it?
