Yesterday I purchased a 250g pack of ginger nuts biscuits. Sainsbury's, Mudeford (Chrischurch, Dorset). I only needed 200g for my recipe. So i got my scales out. However I found that the WHOLE content of the 250g pack only weighed at slightly above 200g, This is well and truly outside tolerance, clearly a breach of trading standars (weight and measures)

If these have ever seen Ginger I am a Dutchmans Uncle; they are hard and tiny with no substance to them and taste more of Lemon than anything Ginger. Ghastly. Instead buy Ringtons own brand Ringtons tea Ginger biscuits which are a REAL Ginger biscuit.

the changed recipe has destroyed the classic biscuit

Overpriced even when on offer with quality and taste below supermarkets own brand standards - check M&S for the best Gingers!

Here in France, we hadn't had a Ginger Nut for a few years. Recently, a large supermarket has started to stock McVities so we bought some. What I remember about them most is that you could waggle them in a cuppa and not worry about a cup full of biscuit or that you'd end up wearing soggy biscuit as it flopped between cup and mouth. They were the best dunkers around and almost too hard to eat without dunking. These Ginger Nuts were nowhere near as hard so they were, actually best eaten on their own. Okay, they are still quite good dunkers and the taste was as I remembered but you certainly can't waggle them while you chat. I'll have to go back to making my own Cornish Fairings with extra ginger. They are rock hard dunkers !

I think McVities should re-name their ginger nuts and call them lemon nuts, the only thing ginger about these bisciuts is the colour. I will not be buying these rubbish bisciuts again, and as for the "now even more gingery" slogan, if they get any more gingery they will have to call them rich tea!

I've been a McVities Gunger Nut fan for years. It took time to adjust to their new flatter and less nobbly appearance several years ago, and might I add, less taste. Now they have a new,'more gingery' biscuit appearing on the shelves. It should read ' New LESS GINGERY taste'. Why keep trying to improve what was good already? these biscuits over the years have really gone down hill. My philosophy is 'If in 'ain't broken, don't fix it' Needless to say, McVities ginger nuts are no longer a staple on my shopping list.

Firstly Imakesense's review just about hits the proverbial nail square on the head. A fine, timeless biscuit expertly constructed , offering an initial alluring sweetness before imparting the sensous heat of its gingery adieu, which invites you to revisit time and time again...an absolute temptress of a biscuit

I like McVities Ginger Nuts very much cause of the flavour put into them

I absolutely loved these McVities Ginger Nuts biscuits. The blend of the chocolate and ginger was lovely. It's no longer available it seems.

Why has the texture changed?. I do not like the crunchy edge with the hard centre. They should be crunchy all the way through. The cheaper supermarket versions are now a better buy. Mcvities gingernuts are a disappointment.

The other two reviews on here are completely illogical, and I would question if the authors have eaten a real Ginger Nut biscuit.
First, 'do not let them go soggy?'. Well, Ginger Nuts do not go 'soggy' like a Rich Tea... they can soak up liquid very nicely, and be consumed in that way. Secondly - you can ... how to put this... suck ginger nuts (ok there goes my credibility as a reviewer) and use your teeth to scrape away the biscuit as it gets soggy -quite disgusting to do in public, so save that for a private occasion.
What is a biscuit without chocolate another review says, and then mentions the hallowed Bourbon Biscuit - which has no chocolate taste to speak of, yet still holds it own with garibaldi, fig rolls, digestives and ginger nuts.
A ginger nuts can be used as the basis of some recipes - try substituting 1/4 of your digestives for ginger nuts, and removing some butter from the recipe... lighter snappier biscuit bases with more zing.
In summation, a warm, intoxicating flavour that you can get tired of, but quickly miss. A great dunking biscuit, with more appeal than 98% of biscuits out there.
A favourite.

Mcvities Ginger Nuts: I think they are really horrible. What's a biscuit if it hasn't got chocolate on it. The mere ginger nut will never be as great as the Mighty Bourbon Biscuit.

Ginger Nuts are straight forward uncomplicated and uncompromising. A biscuit that takes no prisoners you either love them or leave them. Must not be allowed to go soggy. Don't fanny around using them as an ingredient to some tarty dessert just enjoy au natural

Dear Tony Bevis,
<br>Come on you can't be serious. My wife and I have just had our nightly cuppa ruined by the absence of ginger flavour. I just had to get up and complain to somebody, and you're the guy. 'Almost completely, but not quite, totally unlike ginger nuts'. The snap has gone, along with the dunkability. They're now just another boring biscuit.

I too was disappointed to find out that the chocolate version of the ginger nut was discontinued - it couldn't be bettered for dunking!!
