Seen this advertised in paper for 25 quid and as I was looking for a 2nd player to give my Xbox and naff Hyundai player a break, thought I would give it a try. Had read previous reviews on this site about it and gave it a go. It does not disappoint so far. Multiregional out of box and plays dvd-r. A steal!… Read Full Review

The new Pacific 1001 looks a little more stylish than the previous model, but who can fault the performance? CD,VCD,SVCD,DVD-r,DVD+r,MP3CD it plays them all! And, region free straight out of the box. Makes my other DVD player look a little bit sick at over £120… Read Full Review

The Pacific 1001 is a superb DVD player, purchased from Asda, what an absolute bargain, under thirty quid! It does everything a good dvd player should and more. Picture qaulity and sound reproduction is just as good as a more expensive model. This player is so straight forward, you just plug it in and play your favourite film, or listen to your CD's or even view your jpeg photo's from your cdr's.
It doesn't have any display on the front like other models, but this is no problem as you can get… Read Full Review

I love the Pacific 1001 dvd player. For a 'supermarket' buy you cannot go wrong. Don't be fooled by the lack of front display as you don't need one, everything is on the screen. It has two Scart sockets on the rear that makes it easy to hook up.

It is small and easy to use, the remote is nothing special but you can always use another make if you want to. I like the fact that the DVD player will play everything I have, including home made DVD's and JPEG disks. My advice would be to buy one… Read Full Review

Written on: 22/01/2004 by psands (2 reviews written)

I bought this Pacific 1001 DVD Player for £34.00 from Asda.I have the 1002 that I wanted to use as a CD/MP3 player to replace my knackered CD player(this way was cheaper than buying a new Cd player). The 1002 is a terrific unit, so I was sceptical about whether the 1001 could match it. I needn't have worried as I feel that the 1001 has a slightly better picture and I don't need to keep going into the menu to change from PAL to NTSC as on the 1002, it's automatic on the 1001. The lack of LCD is… Read Full Review

Have now bought a 1001 (it came into my local store and was sold out within a day!) I\'m very pleased with it. I believe it is multiregional without needing a hack (but haven\'t any disks to try out). Anyway you can try it out for 28 days and then take it back if you don\'t like it.

I\'ve just come back from ASDA (Bedminster Bristol) and noted several Pacific DVD 1001 for sale at £29.84 !!

Should I buy or should I compare it to the following also stocked at ASDA:

Pacific DVD 1002W £39.97
Thomson DTH211E £59.98
Dual DVD858 £54.97
Philips DVD625/051 £69.97
Toshiba SD130E SB1 £69.85

Ideally, I would like the following:

Multi-Region out of the box (or hack)
Macrovision disable hack

Thank you.

Written on: 16/01/2004 by gurry (1 review written)

This Pacific 1001 is a great dvd player for any price let alone £34.

Plays the works MP3's Mpegs (no need to convert to DVD)easy to use

Has zoom function and digital coaxial outputs. And its DTS.

Superb (just like the skoda of the same name) does what the more expensive models do, better and cheaper.

Every home should have one.

I have upgraded from a sony M35 to this and it knocks the socks of that (and the sony was £400)

Buy one try it and if you dont like it say it isnt what you want… Read Full Review

For the price, the Pacific 1001 machine cannot be beaten, if you want to watch backups of your fave movies, this machine plays them all. Try writing the raw vob DVD files onto a CD (just copy onto hard drive then onto cd if it fits) and it will play them (DVD quality on a CD!!!!)no need for a DVD writer… Read Full Review

The Pacific 1001 DVD player is £34 at Asda and has to be one of the bargains of the year. I asked whether it was multiregion before purchasing and the sales assistant didn't know but when I checked a couple of review sites they soon revealed it is Multi region straight out of the box ;0)

It plays DVD and DVD-r, MP£, CD and VCD. The quality is fine considering the price.
