“A Really Fun Bike to Ride”

★★★★★

written by Carterbanks2 on 26/07/2018

I really like this bike alot! Crusier bikes are just not the same today as this old 80s v4 monster! It fools so many people people because they look at it and since its not a sport bike think its nothing. They are wrong because it is so comfortable like a cruiser but when you twist that throttle it goes! It has a 6 speed and can go up to 150 mph which is rare with cruiser bikes of today. The only down side of it is that you have to put gas in it alot. I guess the v4 engine with small gas tank makes it that way. But for pure fun and messing with newer bikes that think they can dust you this bike is a suprise for them. I scare myself alot when I roll the throttle and get the rpms high. The cool thing also is its kind of rider friendly. I dont think it would be good for a beginner but someone who has rode awhile and wants comfort and some speed and power its a great bike!

“Back on street”

★★★★★

written by Michel-Madura on 11/06/2016

I bought my Madura 1200 few weeks ago from an old man who kept it in is garage for the last 14 years. It only have 28,500 km on it. The old man bought it used in 2002 from a dealer and drive it back home but was affraid about all the 117 hp the Madura was developping. I bring it to my mecano, he cleaned the carbs, change the front tire, a new battery and ready for the inspection. Everything was ok except for the mirrors that was to small. I found original old mirrors at the dealer. I'm running it since last week and I enjoy the way it run, how easy is the direction, how smooth are the shocks. My little disapointement is about the small gas tank, I can only ride about 125km before I go to reserve, than another 35km before I go empty. This is a great bike, and I feel like James Dean when I'm driving it :-)

Chased this bike for years ,tried to buy it from 3 different owners. Just got it 2200 miles ago.WOW,what a machine, starts easy, rides out nicely,is fast, repeat fast!!!I love blowing away modern performance bikes,I have owned 30 or so bikes in my life, this by far the best.My Honda cb900f handled just a little better and my kaw 1100z was slightly faster but neither bike combined those 2 together like the Madura. Fun,fun bike,I find myself smiling every time I ride it!!!

“One of the best bikes I ever owned!”

★★★★★

written by AdonisGibbons on 17/07/2014

I bought a 1985 Suzuki Madura 1200 in 1986 from the dealer and rode it for 9 years. Sold it in a moment of weakness in 1995. I have collected 3 1200 parts bikes over the last few years and have now finally found a 5500 mile survivor. I drove 800 miles to get it. It hasn't run in 15 years but has been stored inside and was still owned by the original owner. It now resides in my garage and I can't wait to get into it and get it running. I've owned at least two dozen bikes since that first Madura and I always kicked myself for selling it. It's a beautiful, powerful machine and scary fast if you want it to be. The only downside to it is the small fuel tank. You can only get about 125 miles out of it. I carried a 1 gallon extra tank with me on long trips. The upside is it is very unique and I lost count of the number of people who used to ask me where to get one. Bike Bandit still sells a lot of factory packaged parts for this bike.

I am selling my dad's 1986 GV 1200GL Suzuki Madura. It's been sitting in his building for 20 years. How do I go about listing it for sale?

“Was a KZ man”

★★★★★

written by Willoughby66 on 24/06/2014

6 months ago in January I saw this 1200 madura for sale for 520 dollars or best offer.. said there was 5100 actual miles on it. So I called.. it was about 45 mils north of here in Daytona.. I found out the bike had the carbs off of it but all was there.. They was removed for cleaning.. So I bring the bike home and clen the carbs and assemble and it runs great! When I took it for a short ride up the street I could not believe the power.. and most of all the comfort.. Most comfortable bike I ever rode. I have several KZ900 and 1000 from the '70s and I ride them all every 2 weeks to keep them fresh. Getting to be a pain and will sell some soon/.. But not this Gv1200 madura.. I am going to take a cross counrty trip on it. What a bike. I love the damn thing.

“Gone but not forgotten 1200 suzuki madura”

★★★★★

written by Mr1200Madura on 28/12/2011

Ok when it comes to the suzuki madura 1200 Im sorry im a very pro madura person. This is a amazing bike with a super strong reliable engine and drive train. I almost hate to say this but a suzuki madura 1200 is as classy as any BMW the cadilac of motorcycles. There are now reports of maduras with over 300,000 miles on them. This does not really suprize me thou.As far as sheer speed and torque goes the v-4s maduras fit nicely between sport bikes for hauling A** and almost as much torque as some of the big twins The madura is like the most user friendly motorcycle out there, no valves to adjust, no chain or sprocket replacement, change oil every 3 or 4,000 miles with oil filter, change primary and sencondary oil every 6 or 8,000 miles, a air filter when needed usually 2 or 3,000 mile max, with carbs being sync at about 5,000 miles which is my personal choice and you are good to go.Chnage fork oil once a yr and bleed brakes once a yr. As far as stock goes the madura is a very finely customized production motorcycle of the 80s'. Like everything there is always room for improvement. With all the great things about a madura there are some things that the madura could sure use some up grades on. foot peg postion is not good unless you are a midget. The gasoline tank is way to small for this bike, (come on 3.6 gallon tank) and the frame is lacking to, actually had mine break on me. And a little more rake would have made the madura really stand out even more. A lower seat height would have really been the pillar of this bike. Anyway Suzuki did a fine job on this bike, but like Suzuki they dont care about anything other than profit. I like suzuki motorcycles been a fan of them since i was a teen. But i dont like suzuki motor corporation AT ALL. Well so much for my coment, Like A** holes we all have 1 this is my opion. To bad Suzuki wasnt smart enough to keep the madura and just up graded it from yr to yr, but for a 2 yr bike this is a very , very fine motorcycle, stone cold reliable. And for money hungry people or corporations why not discontinue the v-4s , when you can build a V-twin like the intruder for 1/2 the price of a v-4 and charge 2xs the price. Kind of like a american made motorcycle and the biker wanna B's.

“One Problem .”

written by on 03/09/2011

Up from the Keys in Florida on I 75 ( VACATIONING )heading North aprox. 90 Farenhieght .Did alligator ally at about a 100mph steady. 20 miles before Tampa the transfer to the drive shaft locked up solid at about 90 mph. Had a brand new rear tire on. thank god for that. It flat spotted the tire completely,[Tire is toast,] but I managed to keep the bike up and thankfully I wasn't in the midst of any traffic at that time . Skidded it off of the 2 lane interstate to the untraveled portion and un coiled for about 20 min. Lubrication PROBLEM!!. Other than that no issues.. Sold bike to a dealer. I'm at present trying to locate another 1200, 1986 to Buy. LOL. note---CHECK ALL LUBE.!!

Yup sounds like the owners neglected regular maintenance on the secondary and final drive gear oil. Not a fault of the bike at all. Check and change fluids regularly!

“ My thoughts onthis bike are many, 1st of all it is...”

★★★★★

written by on 12/02/2011

My thoughts onthis bike are many, 1st of all it is reliable as reliable as names like BMW and GoldWing. You can always find little quirks tthaat could be improved, the biggest downside to this bike is its fuel range, the foot peg location is i guess for really short people the bike could for sure be lowered and the seat height could drop by 4 inches. But i dont want to sound negative, cause this is a ve3ry fine motorcycle mine has never broke down never ever. The only thing ever to go wrong with my is right ut of las vegas my main electrical connector came loose shuting the whole bike down. IT has plenty of power, with nomal ridding the engine last for ever cause 1 does not have to run it hard, its a really good cruisng tour bike as i call it, casue that is what it does, and it blows the doors off of the big touring bikes. My suzuki has been all over the US and has even been in mexico once.If some 1 is looking or a bike this 1 would be hard to beat, anyway I could write a novel on this bike so i will leave it as is, 1 thing that i highly recomend and ican not stress enough this is not a beginners bike, please do not buy this bike if you are new to motorcycling

I have owned my Suzuki Madura 1200 for five years now (2009) and ride in all weather and pass everything on the road. I own four 1200's, a 700 and a Cavalcade, the big brother. What can I say?
Love 'em, love 'em love 'em.
I see another one on the road by chance maybe once a month if I watch carefully.
No other bike compares with the sound, power, grace and rarity.

Pro's:
AWESOME POWER, smooth, a little loud for touring; you might want earplugs, comfortable front seating.

Con's:
The headlight sucks, I put in a sealed beam automotive type.
The rear shock is soft, I replaced it with a Honda ST1100 one.
The rear seat is like sitting on a sewer pipe, I pulled out the tool box in it and replaced it with a block of high density foam.
Added custom grips and a throttle lock, crash guards, a pair of highway pegs and a nice big windshield.
I also replaced the spoke wheels (as pretty as they are with the flat spokes) with a set of mags from the later GS series. Had a high speed front tube blowout once and lived to tell about it. Never again.

Check out the forum on Delphi for a good informative support group.

So, you attribute the blow out to spoke wheels? And, the mags reduce that probability? Not challenging, just asking. Thanks.

Today, at 24 years young, these bikes are still the most awesome bike ever built. No nore than 6000 Madura's all together were ever build by Suzuki (in two types; a 700 (698cc) and a 1200 (1165cc)
Within the two types, some minor changes have taken place;
A Californian model 1200 (emission controle) with a slightly lesser fuel capacity, the GLG version of the 1200 had a slightly different gear ratio....and a French and Canadian version with the gold spokes, these are even more rare.

I now own 2 bikes, a Suzuki GV 700 and a GV 1200 both with an age of 24 years.
I owned my first in 1991 when they were imported from the states
I will never let them go.
Never before had such a machine such an impact.
Both bikes are awesome and have plenty of power, good handling, great looks and the right "feel".

★★★★★

written by Madura85 on 07/09/2008

All the instruments are readily accessable. The gages are a bright orange that is really soothing to the eye. My N maxima is like this and it looks sharp any time of day. There is a speed gage, an RPM gage and a fuel gage. The gear indicator is just as visible and easy to see at a glace. The dual front disk and one rear disk brake are very strong and stop the MC very quick and strong. The Madura has a great deal of power at any gear level. I was doing 70 in 6th OD gear and was surrounded by unsafe followers and I was still able to just pull away with just a touch of the throttle. The seats are very nice looking. The one head light is very strong for night use. The back and front turn signals are large and very visible to others. Over all I give this bike a "9" for a generally well put together piece of machinery. I simply love it. I never thought I could love two women. Even my wife loves her. She is beautiful, fast and easy to handle.

I boosted my bike with my car (turned off) and now bike has lost fire. If you turn the key off and back on it will start and idle just fine but when you give it gas it shuts down, then has no fire until you shut the key off and back on again, then it will start back up. Would the stator cause this to happen?
