Overall nice sound, with wonderful low notes and well tuned upper notes. Very free blowing and open to personal interpretation. The unstained finish adds a nice touch as it displays the true beauty of the wood grain in a deep brown. The tenons are strong and sturdy.

The Yamaha YCL650 Clarinet has amazing tone, and good response in all registers. Upgraded from the YCL-250, and I must say Yamaha never fails to deliver the perfect balance between quality and value.

The Yamaha YCL650 is a fantastic clarinet! After using a Yamaha beginner clarinet, this YCL650 was amazing to play! It is very easy to play and produces a beautiful rich sound. The first of the professional line of Yamaha clarinets, it is an amazing instrument and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I am on a YCL-250 at the moment and I am thinking of upgrading. Would you recomend this clarinet, as the next step up? I've had it for nearly four years and I have got grade 5. I am looking for something that will take me up 2 grade 8!! (If I'm good enough!).

Emmylou2908's Response to emmylou2908's Review

Hi! Well I would definitely recommend this particular clarinet but it really depends on the player so I think it would be best if you went into a store and tried it out. That's what I did and I found that it was really good for my particular playing style. It has a nice rich sound in all registers so yeah, I've found it a MAJOR improvement from my old plastic one!! If there's anything else you want to ask just give us a yell, but, yeah, I think you could quite easily go to grade 8. You will notice the key movements are generally much smoother and the response is much faster. Definitely much easier and more enjoyable to play!
