“This is a very bad airline”

Just a word of warning - if you fly Bulgaria Air and they lose your bags, you're in for a very long hassle and rudeness. The bad part is that I didn't even choose them but was subbed out by KLM/Delta on a trip from the USA. I've thus far after the lost bag: 1.Been given non-working numbers 2. Been told that they are not at fault (though I can track the bag on KLM up until Bulgaria Air took possession 3. Been told that even if they eventually find the bag, it will be my responsibility to return to the airport in Sofia. This is especially amusing as they must think Seattle is a close drive to the Sofia Airport. 4. Mountains of paperwork 5. No apology I know most people will read this review and chalk it up as something that rarely happens - trust me Bulgaria Air (and Bulgaria in general) will not take responsibility for anything. My suggestion? Find another air carrier. All the best

“Broken bags and no baggage claim reimbursement”

All 3 suitcases broken. Baggage claim submitted. No response from anyone. Been over 3 months. Would NOT recommend.

“broken bag worst service”

they broke my small new bag on a tlv sofia flight and what i got after the complaint?complete rudeness nobody cared,they acted as i harass them and didnt even answer the phone most of the time.after half year and tons of phonecalls i got an offer of 20 dollars.for a 150 dollar bag.charming never again.i also found the crew cold and boredthe yjust wanna get rid of you from the start till the end

“Excellent legroom, very professional crew and good...”

I flew on-board a Bulgaria air A319 from Sofia to London Heathrow on 11/03/13. The flight was excellent from start to finish. Cabin crew extremely welcoming and warm. The flight was delayed, but this was due to extreme weather in London (blizzards)and was explained clearly. Water, chocolate and newspapers were served before take-off. Drink service went twice through cabin. Gluten free meal included grilled chicken and vegetables, which was great. Legroom now seemed very much improved as they have removed some rows on all A319s. Throughout the whole flight the cabin crew were very polite and courteous (as well as very, very attractive). There appeared to be a good business class with separate wider seats too. I would definitely recommend them for a flight to/from Sofia. To be honest I don't understand how this can be a 2 star airline. Overall for a European short-haul flight - exemplary !

“FLIGHT WAS 2.5 HOURS LATE FOR DEPARTURE”

BULGARIA AIR Flew on flight FB 984 which left 2.5hours late departing from from Burgas to Sofia on July 11,2012. I had to wait at the airport for additional 2.5hours and missed a connecting flight leaving from Sofia. They announced at the airport that breakfast will be served which didn't happen on the flight. There was no food served on the flight to Sofia and the service was awful. They are a bunch of liers and I will never fly on your airline in the future. “Avoid at any Cost !!!!!”

I don t even know, how they have got a licence to fly ???? All of their Atr-42 and BA-146 are too old, I think their average age schould be over 28-30 years.But lets start from the beginning. I have flown with them for business issues in the last 3 years by over of 40 flights with them. Their Airbuses are relatively ok, but they save money on painting them, so they are all of them still in white and not in the colours of the Airliner. All of their planes are producing strange sounds, the cabine smells terrible and the in flight service is very poor overall. Thanks god that nonthing has happened yet !!!!

“Only people with poor experience of flying could be so...”

I've flown a lot of airlines on plenty of routes and could not understand the fury of some of the reviews here about Bulgaria Air. It is a small regional, yet national carrier and for what it is and represents, I think it's rapidly becoming a reputable airline. Yes, they do have some very old BAe planes and a few legacy 737s, but the A320 we were on to and from LHR was barely a year old and spotless clean. The crew was nice both ways and especially the young and pretty ladies make your flight both enjoyable and memorable. Very good wine is available throughout the flight in Economy, as well as a couple or more beers. Catering could be better, but it's no much worse than BA or LH ro any other major EU carrier on short-haul. Many of the others already charge you for a sandwich (take Iberia as an example). You can tell pilots are excellent by the way they land the bird - every time. And although I've been puzzled at first by the applause on the ground, I'm now starting to contribute and understand why the pilots try so hard ;) They even painted the fleet and it now looks beautiful. My verdict is - Bulgaria Air is a very good airline with some minor flaws that could easily be removed from the big picture. Don't hesitate and fly them!

“lost luggage and completely ignorant staff didn't help...”

We flew over on last friday from Amsterdam to Sofia. The plane was quite full. It looked poorly on the outside as well as the inside. When we arrived in Sofia, it appeared our luggage and that of many others had deliberately been left behind. We went over for a wedding, so you can imagine the luggage we had. Also we brought cloths for the ushers over. They were all in the bags left behind. We were sent over to the lost and found luggage counter. They were very blunt to us. No excuse, no explanation, no nothing. Just the words that the luggage might arrive the next day at 17.00 pm if we were lucky. Well the wedding would have already started by than. We would only get 50$ each as compensation. I can only say, money doesn't make up for anything, leave alone that amount of 50$. We had to buy a whole new outfit (we hardly had time for that) leave alone the ushers cloths that never arrived. And the luggage didin't arrive even up until yesterday. We had informed the airline already on saturday, that it was best to leave the luggage behind in Amsterdam. This very morning at Schiphol it appeared, without checking any of the luggage, their own reports on it, that they sent over all the luggage to Sofia! We had to return those ushers cloths today, as they were needed for another wedding.... We still had a lovely wedding. But no thanks to Bulgaria Air. A nice word, or something that it would appear they were on the case would have helped. Even the staff in Holland laughed at us. This is in high season happening to lots of people every day! That is why I am writing this review. Hoping people will read it and at least know about it. I think it is a disgrace a company can get away with this, and it wasn't that the tickets were cheap. All together I say a BIG NO to Bulgaria air.

how long in days did it take to get your luggage back?
they lost mine from Sofia to Amsterdam more than 10 days ago and still no information where it actually is!

Very good quality flight. Cabin crew was very friendly and quite attractive. Food was tasty for the money paid for the flight. very smooth landing in Sofia despite the heavy winter fog that was present. Plane was very new and comfortable. Flight crew stayed in touch throughout the flight. Overall recommend the airline.

I had not flown Bulgaria for quite sometime, and I must say, I was very pleasantly surprised with the superb comfort and quality of the flight. The plane was a new A319, the crew were all very friendly and quite attractive. Despite the fog when arriving at Sofia, the pilots still managed to land the plane seemingly on a pillow. Excellent service, recommended!

I flew a couple of times with BG air and also BA. Bulgarian Airways business class is so much better than BA.

Big seats and comfortable, good food, good service and good price! I really do recommend trying there Business class.

You even get a bottle of free Red wine as a gift.

Very satisfied with the Bulgaria Air punctuality- we arrived about 15 minutes in front of schedule. Landing was perfect even in poor weather. The cabin crew was friendly and professional. Vegetarian sandwich was not available. All in all a very good flight, especially taking the price into account.

<br/>Do you expect a plane not to land in poor weather conditions? When I fly I fully expect the pilots to be able to fly in IFR!!! Giving them kudos for such a landing is like giving kudos to a clerk for his keyboard/word processing skills.

I flew a return from Heathrow to Sofia last week with Bulgaria Air. The flight there was an A320 and the flight back an A319. Both flights were incredibly comfortable, the cabin crew were outstanding. Incredibly polite, well mannered, attractive, calm, confident, but not arrogant. Constant updates by the crew and a very good service at Sofia airport.

I don't see why people write so many horrific comments about Bulgaria Air. I think they just stick to a stereotype that just because it has the name "Bulgaria" in it, it must be bad. Well to all those "miserable" travelers, I say you are wrong. I have flown BG Air for a few years now, yes in the early years, from 2002 until about 2005/6, it was a struggling airline and it had quite a few negative points. But lately, after flying from Manchester to Sofia on one of their brand new A319's, I could see that the company was striving to change their old ways. Everything was spotless, the food was good, and the attendants were quite helpful when I asked about paying for duty-free with miles. And the captain and crew were very friendly when greeting the passengers and when signing off. Overall, this airline will only continue to progress in the next few years and soon enough, it will say "I told you so" to all those passengers that only know how to bag when a few things don't go their way.

Cancelled flights twice, first time they informed us, second time we found out by chance they had cancelled our rescheduled flight. Aircraft in poor state inside and out. Staff are very abrupt to the point of ignorant. Very disappointing service from the Bulgarian flagship company.
We are the customer and expect some level of service.

Old planes. No tv, radio....nothing. The least legroom I have ever encountered. Disgusting ham or cheese roll. Brick hard. They should just scrap this. Stewardesses must have all been off work the day their training covered 'smiling'. Humerous tannoy from Captain once, which was hard to understand.
Akin to sheep being herded into Bulgaria and then pack you back home with not so much as a by-your-leave.

No leg room, old plane, stewardess couldn't speak very good English! Awful stale ham or cheese sandwich and awful cup of tea!! Didn't have enough duty free stuff to go round whole plane, air stewardesses should smile more, would not recommend them and would definitely not fly with them again!! I also couldn't understand the pilot but apart from that he was very good and got us there earlier than expected
