Good planning essential for Pyr n es backpacking
We got maps & guidebooks & planned a 4-day walk near l'Hospitalet, camping rough for 3 nights. We were near Pic Carlit & planned to walk up it, but ran short of time (partly because our train was 3 hours late. However we successfully encircled the lac de Boulloises which included a couple of snowy passes. As we progressed along the lakeside on the 3rd day we could look back and see our footprints from the day before; clearly nobody else had walked there for days.

ERROR - Sorry, the lake is called Ãtang de Lanoux, we didn't get as far as the lac de Bouillouses. We had started by parking the car at car park near the top of the road at Col de Puymorens, behind what appeared to be an abandoned hotel - probably because the winter sports season had finished. Three days later the car was still there, unscathed. A strange thing happened recently - we discovered a previously lost roll of 35mm film from this trip, so have been re-living some of our memories - Jan 2008
