Perfect Aftersales Service
Nikon is really a good camera but with two major shortcomings: The complete works of Shakespeare are (almost) shorter and easier to memorise than the Nikon manual & they are pretty expensive. However, their aftersales service is that marvellous. When I got the bottom plate broken, they replaced it for cheap, they did it fast, they gave a new registration paper for the camera and they checked if my camera was declared stolen or not. And that is just the detail which pushed me to buy another Nikon.

The Nikon 801s (n8008) Is Easy To Use, Has A Rugge
The Nikon 801s (N8008) is easy to use, has a rugged and sturdy body and is comfortable to use, and easy to understand, however one short fall, it has no cable release. Any good non-professional photographer would enjoy the great features of this camera and does compete with tall the top cameras including the digital ones of this day.
The 801S camera as reviewed stating that it does not have a cable release facility is wrong. If the reviewer looks at the camera from the front on the top right hand corner there is a black button, if unscrewed there is the facility to attach cable release.

Nikon 801s (n8008) - Having No Great Bad Points Th
Nikon 801s (N8008) - Having no great bad points this 35mm SLR body can compete with all modern entry-level cameras (like the Nikon F55, F65 and F75) if you can live with a slower and simpler autofocus system. Being compatible to the MF-Nikkons (work in A and M-Mode with center weighted or spot-metering) you can get very reliable lenses cheap on ebay.
The maximum X-Sync-Time of 1/250s, which can otherwise only be found in pro-bodies, makes day-flash shots much more pleasant.
It has to be said, that the DOF-preview only works on A+M mode and when using MF-Nikkors the aperture has to be selected on the f-stop ring on the lens.
The jog wheel for the right thumb serves as dial for VariControl (in P and Ph-mode), ISO-, Drive-, Mode-, Metering-System-, Exposure-Compensation(+/-5 EV)- and Multi-Exposure-Options while pressing the respective button. There is no complicated menu-surfing.
The ability to change focusing-screens and attach the Multi-Control Back 'MF21' make this body a good choice for the advanced amateur.
The rubber-armed high-quality plastic body was able to take impacts from falling down a few times without any harm.
When used without AF the 4AA batteries provide power to more than 120 rolls of 36exp films but when empty there is no mechanical backup.
I found this review very helpful because it was short and to the point. It provided good information to use for comparison shopping. It didn't mention anything about it performance in astrophotography, but I will assume that a camera of this quality and with the proper attachments would take excellent pictures.
