It Seems That I Am Sffering With The Same Prolem A
it seems that i am sffering with the same prolem as many, i have ardly used the dvd and this christams have gone to use it and it will not open. i have tried to see if it can be repaired but it has had it. worse still i have contacted liton who "DONT PROVIDE REPLACEMENT DVD DRIVES" what a scam. They are so easy t replace and yet i cannot get one. The other issue with this unit is the way you have to remove all the recording times as they stay on the system, a real pain to go back one at a time and have to take them out. the HDD recording has been ok, however my unit is 2 years old and the video playback is not brilliant. Would buy Liton again, i dont tink so,with no aftersales support for spares i am going to have to buy a new recorder when i dont really need to.

There Are Very Few Hd/dvd Recorders On The Market
There are very few HD/DVD recorders on the market with the editing features of the LVW-5045. Being able to edit out advert's etc is extremely useful. It can also record more formats than most rivals. Of course the analogue tuner is not much use now but it's easy enough to record from a freeview box or Sat' receiver. I have had a few spoiled DVD discs but that's after 4 years of hard usage.

Had The Machine Over Three Years Now Without Any P
Had the machine over three years now without any problems whatsoever. I have never had any disc fail to load and writing to DVD 100% successful. Having read all the poor reviews I was wary of buying the machine but now I am very glad I did. I wonder if only wingers write into these forums and so give a very biased picture for most items?

Unit Co9ming Up On 3 Years Old & It's Been Back 4
Unit co9ming up on 3 years old & it's been back 4 times for DVD drive replacement. Same problem each time & looking around the web it is a common fault with the Liteon LVW-5045 - SO WHY DON'T LITEON SORT IT?
This time I was told it would be a chargeable repair so I bought a different brand.
With nothig to lose & a spare DVD-RW in an old desktop, I decided to see if it would work. Lid off, unplug the old player, plug in the new unit...
Everything works perfectly.
Had to attack bits of the machine to get the new unit in & the drawer front is held onto the new writer with sticky pads but I now have a spare machine for use in another room & with easily replaceable (and cheap) DVD RW. The new writer is a Pioneer DVR107DB

We Purchased A Lite-on To Replace A Vcr, We Though
We purchased a Lite-On to replace a VCR, we thought it was make life easier. To begin with it was great, but then things started to go downhill.
The DVD drive refused to prepare blank media, different types were tried, all failed. We found that cleaning the laser would improve matters for a short while, but we rarely burnt a disc so why was it getting so dusty so quickly (it's also kept in a closed TV cabinet.) When it fails to prepare a disc it leaves the disc unusable. When it does write a DVD it'll freeze the machine if I look at the DVD page to see how much free space is left, this requires an unplug which again leaves the disc unuseable. Incredibly, it'll sometimes fail to read a disc that it has successfully burnt and finalised - yet a standalone player can read it!
When it was purchased, I loved the machine - now I loathe it, it has been nothing but trouble. I would never consider buying anything made by Liteon again.

This Machine Has Been Ideal As A Hdd Recorder But
This machine has been ideal as a HDD recorder but had nothing but problems with DVD burning/reading.
In it's 2 year warranty the unit has had 3 replacement DVD Drives each one going the same way as the last. i.e same as the above reviews. Getting tempramental about balnk discs then getting temparental about it's own recorded disks and then degenerating to the point wehre it won't even read shop bought movies.
Avoid!

I Replaced The Dvd Writer In Mine With A Liteon 20
I replaced the DVD writer in mine with a Liteon 20X new unit. It's easy enough to get it to work, but slightly more difficult to get it to fit well, mechanically. My Liteon 5045 will now burn a complete movie in about 5 - 6 minutes, and now seems to accept just about any disk. A fair amount of pain getting to this point though.

The Lite-on Lvw-5045 Is Good For Recording To Hdd
The Lite-On LVW-5045 is good for recording to HDD and playing back, not so good as a DVD recorder. Hit and miss jittery menus, extremely fussy over which disc it'll write too. Ruins as many discs as it records. You really don't need the aggro. I've come very close to taking an axe to it. When I've finished copying my last 5 VHS tapes, I think I will.

I Found That The Lite-on Lvw-5045 Would Copy One P
I found that the Lite-On LVW-5045 would copy one program OK but if another program was added, it would corrupt the disc it had previously recorded on to! Having disposed of over two hundred dvd discs destroyed by this manic machine, I am at a loss as to how lite-on can market such rubbish as "fit for purpose^. Like many others, I have found that with age, the machine refuses to recognise its own previous recordings along with the brands of dvd recommended by lite-on themselves. The money I have wasted on trying to find a compatible dvd for this insult of a machine would have paid for another manufacturer's that worked. To add insult to injury, when it is switched on it switches itself off and when asked to open its recorder drawer, the blessed thing jams - did anyone at Lite-on actually trial this thing?I wished I had read other folks reports on this junk before purchasing it - we learn by our experiences and Lite-on is a name firmly burnt on my memory, which is more than I can say for their recorder's ability where dvd's are concerned.
