What a collective waste of oxygen is the workforce of the RBS. They still only seem to want to lend money to people who can't afford it while all the time pretending that their procedures are there to sort out the high risk borrowers. They seem to have overlooked the "convenience" borrowers. The ones who borrow for expediency rather than need. Thank goodness there are other better companies out there. I have been with RBS for 20 years now and had a mortgage for at least the last 6 years, just asked for additonal borrowing for an extension to be declined by this faceless organisation, I have 50% loan to value and have never missed a payment on anything. After 2 x 40 minute phone calls they said all was ok and the paperwork would be sent out. Applying for our first mortgage, there was no mortgage adviser in store so just put us on the phone which really there should be a trained adviser in store we could speak to, anyhow the call should be an hour long call (max) we left 2 and a half hours later making us miss an appointment with another lender. Staff in store couldnt believe how long we was on the phone for and said we would recieve compensation (still not recieved). It's a very bad experience applying mortgage from them. Firstly, the mortgage team is very very poorly trained. When you phone them, you would get different answer from different people, so it depends on luck if you can get correct answer. Secondly, everything is slow and poorly organized. one day they would tell you something would be done tomorrow. 100% agree, i'm pursuing a formal complaint, it has taken over 2 months to process mortgage and still no end in sight.
I have called most days but just keep getting fobbed off by call centre staff that tell me about the 'process'.
Its funny, the survey was done in 5 days, roofing report that was requested was done in 6 days, legal stuff took 2 weeks... that means RBS have wasted the remainder of the time.
I have lost the will to buy my home, but I'm not going to give up as it has cost me over £800 due to the delay, not to mention almost losing the house because it is taking so long. Unbelievable.
This was a straight forward mortgage application, we took all documents to branch, there were minor issues to tiles on roof, no problems with conveyancing searches, no problems with credit checks/affordability. This is purely down to RBS' incompetence.
Please please do yourself a favour before you see the 'best first time buyer report', take this review into account. It has been two months of hell. And still no house...
