Philips Phones... Do They Make Them To Last Only A
Philips Phones... Do they make them to last only a maximum of two years. I took a Zenia as a replacement for an Onis 200 that broke down after just 18 months. Fortunately, I had a service plan and insisted on a phone to the same value as I'd paid for the original.
I found the phone generally quite easy to use and set up. No problems with range inside the house. Could roam outside up to about 60 metres without interference. Answerphone facility worked fine, although it would be useful to set more than 4 rings before it automatically clicks in. Menus are slow and clearing the call log is painful.
The phone is just under two years old now and has manifested problems with the base station. A lot of background hiss which seems to clear when the base is unplugged for a few hours, but returns after about 10 minutes. Fortunately, you can now buy the base stations from around £20 which is likely cheaper than having them repaired. I'm going to try giving it a go at least. I've found other posts where people have found the base stations pack up.
I would say generally, this is a reasonable phone, for the RRP it really should last longer. Consider opting for the service plan if you really want one.
I bought my cordless Philips phone set about a year ago from a supermarket. As you can understand from the Supermarket I don't really get any advice what to do when I get a problem with my phone.
At the moment I cannot get the answering machine to get to switch on, I have tried several times by following the booklet how to switch it on but it is not working.
The red light has also gone from the main handset and when someone tries to call us, instead the answering machine coming on you just keep getting this bleebing noice. Can anyone help please?

Bought A Philips Zenia After Seeing It On Qvc, Phi
Bought a Philips ZENIA after seeing it on QVC, Philips stated a range of in excess of 100m, ours cut out only 20 metres away from the base station. Sound quality was poor and the answering machine was poor quality even when it was set to record at the highest quality. Have had 2 units, both of which had to be unplugged and reset at least once every two days. If someone phones but does not leave a message, unit states one message waiting but will not allow access to it and display can't be reset. The menu system is accessed via a job control that is forever being caught during normal use, the display was extremely poor and a bad colour (blue) making it extremely difficult to see, the contrast was adjustable but not enough. Have sent the phones back and got a refund, back using my old Philips Onis 2 - Philips have got it seriously wrong with the Xenia
Philips Zenia - I've Been Using One Of These Phone
Philips ZENIA - I've been using one of these phones now for about 18 months and find them very disappointing. We have two handsets in the house and one base station. The handsets, though of supposedly identical manufacture, will not charge on each others chargers. So, we have to make sure each one goes back to the right charger.
The sound quality is very poor and the volume is very low. The handsets have a volume setting, but it only has two levels both of which make it very hard to hear.
We've also found that the handsets seem to have trouble keeping in contact with the base station.
Finally, the buttons on the keypads respond very slowly. All round, a dud.
