“Bad customer service”

Written on: 06/10/2017

I have been a long term customer who was happy with their service until now!! Since they’ve changed there rules and regulations they have gone from good to bad in a matter of months. No one calls to collect. I’ve rung repeatedly their customer services and am still none the wiser what’s happening. Had an agent come tonight as for the past 6 weeks I’ve been trying to top up my loan which I only have a small amount left owing to be told I’m 12 weeks behind on payments and need to bring… Read Full Review

“Full of Bull”

Written on: 28/07/2017 by 182Kennedy (1 review written)

Loans offered are really expensive to pay back. Recently they have changed the way they operate, before you would have an agent calling to collect your money each week, 4 weeks have gone by and no agent. Their complaints department promises to get back to you in 5 days, no surprises that didn't happen either. In the meantime your credit rating is going down the toilet due to missed payments. I have learned my lesson and will be paying my loan off and will never deal with this miserable company… Read Full Review

“irresponsible lending”

Written on: 05/04/2017

I have a friend that i have just had to support to try to get out of debt. on her showing me her Provident book i saw that in November 2016 my friend took out a loan from them and as of today's date 5/4/17 she still has £660 left to pay. I then noticed that my friend took out another loan in February 2017 for over £2000 whilst she still owed a large amount from November 2106. i was gobsmacked that Provident allowed her to take out another loan whilst owing on another. Very irresponsible in… Read Full Review

“Use silly rules to check your affordability”

Written on: 17/03/2017 by Justinh468 (1 review written)

I'm a single parent, unemployed, something came up, I needed £300 asap. Try Provident, tell them I'm a single parent, unemployed etc, they say that shouldn't be a problem as long as I can afford repayments, which I knew I could. Lady came to see me, she lists money coming in and going out, all good. I hand her proof of income and straight away she says the letter is too old. What?? For a company that apparently offers loans to unemployed people, they should know HMRC & Job Centre don't send… Read Full Review

Applied through broker who sent me to this company, was told I had been accepted for my loan which was great All my problems solved. Not the case I was offer a loan of 200 when I actually was looking for a £2500/£3000 loan so they should not have said my application through my broker was accepted as it clearly was not for what I applied and should have said sorry we can't offer you a loan for the amount you need but can offer you a smaller loan… Read Full Review

“Ruined my future! ”

Written on: 27/06/2016 by Tianad491 (1 review written)

Got out a loan. Circumstances changed. contacted them to make a new arrangement (lower repayment) , they pleasantly agreed. I was ecstatic! so I paid the new agreed amount then circumstances changed again but for the better! So I paid the remaining amount off before the original agreement time! Brilliant, they done me a favour then I returned it by paying early as promised..... Then 4 years later I have gone to apply for a mortgage.... They put every single month for 6 months as a late… Read Full Review

I refused to pay anything until I got my book back as that was the only way I knew what I actualy still owed, eventualy got it back and rang up a couple of times to ask why no agent had been round to collect my… Read Full Review

“Glorified loan sharks avoid!!!”

Written on: 09/10/2015

Had £100 loan. They claim to help out people with bad credit in difficult situations. Struggled to repay, but never borrowed more now owe £322. I phone to see why there is more than 200% interest added on and the man says he cannot give me any breakdown of where all the extra charges have come from. it's charges for lateness. Then implied I've borrowed £300. nothing but glorified loan sharks charging secret extra costs that you can't afford meaning your stuck in debt with them forever… Read Full Review

As a long term provident customer. Through my own stupidity. You have rights. If you can't afford the payments you need to tell or ring your agent. They are legally obliged to back off and give you time to come to a mutual agreement with them. You may have to enter what is called a solve agreement. This an agreed payment which you must adhere to. If your agent is the bullying type I'd ask for a different agent Which is also your right. I know it's hard living on a low income. But in the long run try and move away from provident. There are other low interest loans such as moneyline. I am finally making the break myself after 25 yrs.

Hi was a long term provident customer started in the early 80s job pay was low so short term loans were a must especially at Christmas.
Can you ever remember Provident putting a charge on loan as well as the interest. I am nearly 100% sure they did this until around the year 2000 Any help on this matter photos of old books or contracts would be greatly appreciated, or just any help if you can remember any charges like that at all. I am pretty confident if these charges were added they would be illegal and that we may have a case in getting them back.
Many thanks in advance

“Hard to understand new policy ”

Written on: 08/07/2015 by FreddySimpson122 (1 review written)

We have been customers of Provident for over 12 years after being made redundant and getting into financial problems. The collector lady calls each week and we have never missed a payment. Up to now getting a loan from Provident has been an easy process but of late it has taken longer and longer whilst she tries to sort out the new gadget they have to use. Now she tells me that in future they will be checking credit records before granting further loans and she is getting lots of her customers… Read Full Review

So sorry to read this.I have been in the same boat many times since meeting my husband. He got us knee deep in debt. We have spent 20 yrs clawing our way out. Finally a light at the end of the tunnel and I loose my income. Anyway Provident do prey on those who are in need. That is my bug with them years ago they came round with a van full of goodies knocking doors. That's how I got stuck with them. I am nearing the end of my loan and won't be renewing, Xmas or not. I hope you are having emotional support as I know what living in debt can do. .
