I have had this Sony vaio notebook at a price 720pounds brand new for 6 months. It has had to go back to the manufacturer twice already once for a hard drive replacement and once for 'tweaks' because it keeps crashing, overheats and the battery life is very poor.
I have had to reload software on it that you cannot back up and you have to pay for each time. i have lost days of work.
Sony's policy is 'no refund no replacment' they have cost me nearly 1000 pounds already in lost time (if i dont work I dont get paid).
the people who have to help you are very nice but the customer service parameters are so small they really dont put the customer first.
I probably wouldn't be so irate if I didnt have a 3 year old HP which outclasses the Sony, its had multiple different software on it, one change of power lead and still functions solidly.
Sony the laptop and Sony the company with their rubbish customer service, charge you a hell of a lot for nothing. Dont buy this laptop unless you are just mucking about on the internet sometimes its truly rubbish!

My B1XP has done me proud for close to 6 years now. The screen is matte, so can be used outside and doesn't become unusable due to reflections like many newer laptops. It's been a reliable machine that has been extensively used and is still working perfectly well.

I've owned and used 2 of these Sony VAIO VGN-B1XP laptops for last 3 years, they have been used by several of my team. Never had a problem with them. Excellent value laptops at the time when they were new. Spec is low compared with new laptops today - but thats to be expected. Screen is very good in terms of resolution and crispness, but not bright enough sometimes.

I've been aroun two of these Sony Vaios for about 4 years. No problems at all although short battery, not very powerfull features and output interfaces, defenitively a tool for the job. Not a powerfull gaming machine, obviously.

I have owned this Sony Vaio B1XP Laptop for a year and I don't recognize those problems. I have had some problems with crackling sounds coming out of the speakers but they repaired it within a very short time. I also got a new LCD-screen but that was not a necessary repair.

I got this Sony Vaio B1XP from Ebay the first owner said there was little trouble with the laptop. Some times crash's rarely 2 weeks later more crash's in between Internet Explorer and playing some games from keyboard heats up like mad and shuts down. I know this hasn't got anything to do with the first owner. I have the receipt and we spoke most times he had it for 5 months I'm sure it's the motherboard. Cheap and nasty boards Sony put in them. That's all out of my hands now shame though this one's a bad apple thats all. The first owner tried to contact Sony about the problems

Look at the internet, people are trying to get a class action against this company. Lots of people have had the same problems with the Sony Vaio B1XP laptop. THe memory chips just pack up and you are left with a blank screen.
DO NOT BUY!

The real problem with Sony is that they don't understand the concept of user support. Their products are overpriced and they don't have anyone who cares about the poor suckers who buy their stuff. Don't buy from Sony ever.
