“Used Devitt from the beginning after passing my Mod 2...”

Written on: 30/04/2020 by Fraser96 (1 review written)

Used Devitt from the beginning after passing my Mod 2 back in 2013. it was a fair fully comprehensive price and reduced each year as my no claims increased each year. When I purchased a new bike it was a bit of a shock of the increase but thought ok it's a new model twice the price of my older so was happy with it. Until after 1 year instead of going down as I would have expected with 7 years NCB it shot up another £64 pounds, also about a month earlier I email all companies, Start Rescue… Read Full Review

“It has been a long haul”

Written on: 27/02/2018 by billdouthwaite (1 review written)

My insurance with Devitt Motorcycle Insurance was refused on 31st January when I received a letter about non disclosure of a material fact. This was never explained to me despite a number of requests as advised by the Financial Ombudsman. It has taken up to now to convince the insurance industry that the 'fact' was an error. I received an email from Devitt on 14/02/18 which expressed their regret, also stating that they would get back to me as soon as they received a response from my insurers… Read Full Review

“Unhappy with customer services ”

Written on: 01/10/2017 by Bennettxr454 (1 review written)

Telephone advisors were very helpful . Customer services have now threatened to terminate my insurance 3 times every time because of mistakes made in the devitt office the last time because I hadn't provided proof of no claims from my previous insurer , which was deviit !! Why can nobody pick up a telephone and speak to me when there is a problem ? Company policy seems to be just threaten the customer with terminating their policy instead of communicating , document seem to get mislaid… Read Full Review

“Very competitive but you get what you pay for.”

Written on: 10/08/2017 by pennyProfit (9 reviews written)

My motorbike has been insured with Devitt for three consecutive years. Never needed to claim so happily paid on renewal until I changed address. £30 admin fee to change address in the same postcode area! When I told them that Direct Line charged £2.50 admin to change address on my car policy, they referred me to the contract. That, I said was for mid-term vehicle changes not address. I soon realised that I was talking to a brick wall. As circumstances would have it, it was still cheaper to… Read Full Review

Thank you. What I don't understand is why you cannot respond here on the general issues. Why does Devitt charge £30 (33% of total insurance cost in my case) for address change when Direct Line charges £2.50. Why no responses to emails until I make a fuss on here. I'm afraid I'll be voting with my feet on renewal. Good riddance.

“Very disappointed ”

Written on: 28/03/2017 by ArielSloan (1 review written)

I have been using Devitt for many years , since 1999 and they have always been great. Until my most recent renewal. The quote came back almost three times higher than the prior year with no change in vehicle or circumstance. I questioned it but they gave a stock answer. For the new insurance I had to provide various documentation which I didn immediately. But they kept chasing me 3 times for it and I sent it three times in the end. I called them once in this process and despite being told they… Read Full Review

“Very abrupt service”

Written on: 21/06/2016 by WOZZA369 (1 review written)

Got my new bike and sorted insurance with Devitt. Paid the deposit and a week later got a text saying ring urgently to avoid cancellation. Got a similar email saying a notice of cancellation was in the post - no reason for it or explanation why, just notice of cancellation plain and simple. I wasn't aware of the DVLA license check code that I had to get but maybe was in the small print somewhere on Devitt's correspondence. I got the license code via the DVLA and phoned with it. I gave my old… Read Full Review

“No discounts for any security measures”

Written on: 12/05/2016 by haptad (1 review written)

The original policy price was OK - £270 comprehensive for a scooter - but when I moved house after three months, to an admittedly higher-risk area, Devitt wanted an additional £250 for the remainder of the year, also saying they "cannot offer any further discount for a ground anchor, chain or steel motorcycle storage container" or the fact that the scooter is locked behind a steel gate at night - it's all the same as parking it unlocked on your driveway as far as they are concerned… Read Full Review

“Cancelled policy”

Written on: 29/10/2015 by bzrrr (1 review written)

If like me you get lots of emails and are reluctant to follow links and prefer a straightforward message in your inbox, then beware. I was offered a policy at a good price which I took out. I got an email with a link like this "Click here to download important information regarding your insurance policy There may be an action required from you in this document, so please read it straightaway." which required me to upload drivers licence etc which I did. I then went on holiday for 3 weeks and… Read Full Review

“Be careful on auto-renewal, they are 40% more expensive ”

Written on: 18/08/2015 by Rhianna1973 (1 review written)

I have been with Devitt for four years, the first two years I got caught out on the automatic renewal where the policy is renewed by my verbal agreement. The policies are good but on the third year I wanted to test the market and made sure auto-renewal was off. I used a comparison site and found that my premium (with a recent claim) was good value from Devitt on the comparison site. However the renewal papers came and it was 40% more expensive as an existing customer, and that quote didn't… Read Full Review

Devittinsurance's Comment

Hi,

I’m sorry that you are unhappy with the renewal premium that you received, and also with our automatic-renewal process.

As we are a broker, we do not have any influence over the rates that are provided to clients at renewal – these are provided by the insurer of your policy. If you were involved in an incident then any premium would take this into account, and if the claim is still open, regardless of whether it was your fault or not, then this would be recorded as a ‘fault’ claim.
If the details you entered online differed from this then this could be the reason that the renewal was sent to you was more expensive than the quote you obtained via a price-comparison website. Your renewal premium would have been issued taking the incident into account, as again this was issued by your insurer, and not by Devitt.

As a broker, we have a duty to ensure that our clients are continuously covered at renewal as motor insurance is a legal requirement, and is part of the service that we provide to ensure the renewal process is as swift as possible for our customers. If there are any queries about the automatic renewal process or if customers do not wish to use this facility, we ask that they contact us so we can discuss their individual requirements.

It is also common for insurance providers to issue a discount on their new business premiums, so the quote you received online may have been cheaper as you would have been treated as a new customer.

Once again I apologise if you are unhappy with our services, but I hope that my explanation has gone some way in helping to clarify this matter for you.

Kind regards,

Georgina

“careful when you cancel”

Written on: 12/06/2015 by mickyfromlutonuk (1 review written)

I paid £139 for bike insurance towards the end of march (2015) and sold my bike on the 11th of june. I was told that it would be £55 admin fee to cancel my policy so going on a pro rata basis I thought that after having less than three months cover (roughly £35) plus the admin fee (£55) I might get £40-£50 back. WRONG !!!!!!! Its probably in the small print somewhere, I am getting nothing. Thank you Devitts, its not the money I am peeved about, its the sneaky underhand way you have… Read Full Review

Devittinsurance's Response to mickyfromlutonuk's Review

Written on: 16/06/2015

I apologise that you are unhappy with our services and the charges which have applied to cancel your cover. All charges by us and your insurer are outlined in our terms of business which are provided before cover is purchased which our customers need to agree to, and we also advise you of your right to cancel within the 14 day cooling-off period, which can be exercised for any reason including if you are unhappy with any of the policy conditions.

Unfortunately, we are unable to suspend cover as there has to be an insurable interest for cover to be in force. We cannot leave cover running as this can cause complications when the new owner tries to insure this bike, as this would show as being insured twice on the Motor Insurance Database which can also cause an issue if a claim was made.

I again apologise that we were unable to assist you further, but if you would like us to investigate this matter for you then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

Georgina

“Renewal of insurance”

Written on: 25/05/2015 by 402Powers (1 review written)

As a loyal customer, why do you charge a higher renewal premium that when I go online, search for a better quote, and end back at Devitt saving 30%? Poor treatment of your current customers. Does not build any loyalty… Read Full Review

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, your feedback is very important to us!
It is common in the market for insurance providers to apply discounts online and at new business. However, your renewal rate is based on your details at that stage. If you’d like to get in touch via our email link at the top of this page then we’ll happily look into this for you.

“Poor show!”

Written on: 16/04/2015

My insurance was due for renewal but first thing I heard was a letter asking why I had not responded. I called and was told the renewal notice had gone out but must have been "lost in the post." Fine, can you send me the quote again? I was told it would be sent by e-mail. No, in fact it was never sent by e-mail at all and eventually I had to call again and ask for a quote over the phone line as insurance had now expired. All sorted now but not sure why I needed to make two long call and why… Read Full Review

Thank you for your review, this type of feedback is really important to us to help us identify where certain processes can be made easier.

I apologise that you’ve had some trouble receiving your renewal quote from us. If email is your chosen method of contact, then renewal quotes are sent to the email address provided to us around 21 days before the renewal date. If by post, then they are sent to your last known home address that we have recorded on our system. However we would like to investigate why these were not received and so if you would like to contact us by selecting the link 'contact via email' then we will happily look into this for you.

I can also assure you that we do not have any shares in any telecom organisations whatsoever, and we do not make any money from calls from our customers.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Kind regards,
Georgina
