“Boring”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 12/09/2014

I've seen quite a few shows here in Toronto as well as NYC & Vegas. Was quite disappointed in Wicked. I loved Wizard of Oz & maybe had high expectations because of the link between the 2 shows. I found the story line to be very simple & boring. Really, no creativity in the writing & overall idea. The singing was average at best & way over done at times (meaning some of the notes were held way too long - wicked witch in particular). The best part of the show was probably the costumes. I would not recommend it.

“Very boring, disappointing, poor story”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 30/04/2013

My husband and I have just came back from Wicked musical. It was a gift for my birthday. I must say that sadly we are very disappointed with the show. It was extremely boring, poor story which made no sense, noisy singing, songs not catchy at all, average dancing. The plot was boring. It was not funny either. We wanted to leave at the interval, but decided to stay and give a second chance. Unfortunately, the second half was not better at all. I almost slept at the end. The only interesting thing was the special effects and the costumes. It is very disappointing that this musical is considered and advertised as one of the best London's musical.

thoroughly agree I had to force myself to sit there until the end as the cost was not cheap for poor quality singers, poor tunes and lyrics and this was only yesterday so I hope this has not put me off live theatre.

A terrible experience. A very poor script, scenery was dull and unimaginative. Voices were not distinct. Wanted to leave at the interval but thought it might improve. It didn't, it was dull and boring throughout.

“Dull music, dull script, dull dancing”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 21/02/2013

I went with my husband and three teenage daughters as a family treat as the girls had been wanting to see it for some time. I have been to many of the west end shows, love musicals and usually get totally emotionally involved with them. Unfortunately, 'Wicked' didn't engage my husband, my 18 year old daughter or myself at all. We found the songs extremely dull, tuneless and unmoving - perhaps because the script didn't allow the characters to become emotionally convincing. I was so bored, I could gladly have left at the interval and my husband was desperately trying not to nod off. It reminded me of some of the more modern second-rate Disney musical cartoons - which is maybe why my 13 and 14 year old daughters enjoyed it more than we did. Staging, costumes, acting, dancing and actual singing were average. The most impressive part of the show for me were the flying monkeys...

“Boring - Boring - Boring”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Grumpyjill on 19/08/2012

Went with my daughter for a 'treat' - I am in my fifties and my daughter is in her twenties. We were so disappointed by lack of storyline, no variation in the music - two soprano voices belting out dull dull songs - we left during the interval. The special effects were impressive but could not merit us staying any longer.

“Wicked..Yes!”

written by magic-Andy on 04/05/2012

I have now seen this show 3 times and each time it has been brilliant. The cast and scenery make this a fantastic show, a show which caters for the whole family. Matt Willis was in the latest show I show but have to admit he has not been as good as his predecessors. However Rachel Tucker- has an amazing voice and stage prescence and its worth seeing the show just for her. The theatre is very close to Victoria underground station. Prices are reasonable if you hunt down the bargains. I would recommend this show as must see if you visit London.

“IT CAST ME UNDER A SPELL!”

★★★★★

written by on 17/04/2012

Wicked is one of the best musicals I have ever scene! All the costume, music and scenery is fantastic! After it had finished, I was singing along to all the songs and buying the FULL soundtrack! It's obsessive! Wicked is exciting and mind-blowing! Anyone can see it! It's about the 2 witches from the 'Wizard of Oz', Glinda and Elphaba,Rachel Tucker (Elphaba) was AMAZING! Her voice and acting skills are well....WICKED! It's a must see production! The music was perfect for every drama. The scenery for it was perfect, especially the song "Defying Gravity", this got me into tears and tore me up! This has a good moral and it tells a story on a higher level about friendship, courage and standing up to what you believe in! I am seeing it again!

“Very very dull and boring”

written by on 29/03/2012

The worst show I have ever had to sit through. We were very tempted not to go back to our seats after the interval. Theatre was only 2/3 full and there were large parties of school children which shows that they must be selling the seats off cheaply so we feel very ripped off at having paid £80 plus per seat for our pre booked seats. Has put us off London theatre for a while, very very bad value for money not a pleasant evening out.

“Absolutely Outstaning - humerous, entertaining and fun!”

Whilst visiting the city of New York on February 16th, I watched the Broadway Company’s version of the prequel to the Wizard of Oz. The show was called Wicked; the lead character, the witch (Elphaba), is played by Donna Vivino. Donna Vivino is an actress who has played roles in the Broadway productions of: Hairspray, Martin Short: Fame Becomes me, Saturday Night Fever, and the original Young Cosette in Les Miserbles. She was a fantastic actress. The play is not in chronological order as it opens with Glinda, a princess (played by Chandra Lee Schwartz), telling her friends on how the witch was killed, and how bad she thought the witch was. Then someone accuses Glinda of befriending the witch. After that, we flash back to how the witch and Glinda meet, and how they became friends. This loved-up story is a play you cannot afford to miss. Going through their school days is the first flashback moment. When Elphaba, born green, is sent to private school to look after her sister, who Elphaba’s family love more, she is forced to share a room with Glinda. They hate each other at first instance, and through insults at each other, like “blonde” (inferring Glinda is stupid) and “green.” When the handsome prince arrives, Glinda throws herself at him. But little does she know, he is in love with Elphaba (the witch) after they release captive animals together. Their teacher, an animal, is sacked, and is forced into captivity as well, which causes tension in the school – Elphaba is outraged. Elphaba is then offered to see the wizard, after the head teacher notices her ability to read spells. She sees this wizard, who is portrayed, firstly, as a wonderful character. But, the wizard is evil – And tricks Elphaba into reading a spell which changes the world. She goes into exile. At the end of the play, we see Elphaba fake her death in able to run off with the prince. I thoroughly enjoyed the event. It was a fantastic play with only one or two noticeable errors – this was when Glinda throws a witch’s hat to Elphaba, who dropped it. Apart from that, it was error-free and I wanted to see it again. It was humorous, and serious and something for everybody to enjoy.

“Dull and Boring”

written by plotland on 08/02/2012

The worst musical I've ever seen, I feel very sorry for the cast because the main problem is a very poor script and abysmal songs. The whole production is clunky and awkward, to be honest I've seen better productions at provincial theatre pantomimes, this is not the quality you expect from a major London theatre. My wife and I saw the new Wizard of Oz production in London late last year and it's in a completely different league to this show. We were not alone in our opinion, half the group on our coach said that they thought it was slow and boring. My wife and I seriously considered leaving in the intermission but decided to give a second chance; sadly the second half was only marginally better than the first. I’m sure that some people really do enjoy the show but if you have seen productions like The Wizard of Oz, Billy Elliot or Chicago, think twice before spending money on seeing Wicked

“Very wicked!!!”

written by Aaronaaa on 05/02/2012

Wicked is by far the best thing in the west end now, it's the best for sets, costumes and pure magic. It is worth every penny and gives inspiration to all who see it, the story is great and I can't see why some people dislike it. The current cast are great and each time I go they have made a little change which makes a big diffrence. Some may think it's too loud and not good quality dining but I disagree, once you know the story and it's meaning you will be changed 'for good' you don't have to read a review, just go and see for your self!!!!!!

“Loud yet Dull uninspiring, over rated by a long way”

The only good thing about Wicked is the theatre location and its ease to get to. It is only a stones throw from Victoria tube, so is Billy Elliot which we have already seen and thoroughly enjoyed. Wicked starts of with what could only be described as a tuneless mob all trying to out sing each other, it doesn't get much better through the show. The dialogue is hard to hear yet the singing deafens you. I hate to admit it but I actually nodded off through the show. I did not like to mention it to the rest in the group but they said they started to doze as well. The break couldn't come soon enough. It was only the fact we paid top price for our seats which again were over priced for the location that we stayed. God knows what the view was like on the last row of seats up in the gods. I wish we had booked another show instead. We saw Shrek the musical which was outstanding compared to this one. It is a shame because the costumes and set were good but the show was let down by poor sound and a hard to follow storyline.

one of the best musicals i have EVER seen. the acting was fantastic, singing was truely out of this world and it just draws you and you forget where you are. louise dearman was not performing the day i saw it so chloe taylor was standing in for the role of glinda and she really pulled off the role in her own unique way. definatly worth the money i paid not just for the ticket but to travel all the way to london just to go and see it and i would love to see it again.

I thought wicked was ok, not the best musical i have seen! My friend thought the same as me. I found it quiet slow and boring. The Make up
was clever. I would see it again though, maybe
i would enjoy it more. The singing was amazing, but not catchy songs.

AMAZING! This is a must-see, no doubt! Wicked was a fun, thrilling, and remarkable adventure. This play may be just a bit confusing for children under the age of 7 or 8, but it shouldn't matter, because they will be caught up in all the intense, fun, fast-paced rhythm of the extraordinary music incorporated in the show. Don't miss this show, because Wicked is without a doubt wicked!
