In Good Company is a much better film than I ever expected. The Mrs picked it and I thought, looks promising for a 'Romantic Comedy' should be watchable. It was fantastic. There are no jokes as such, not a good start for a comedy I guess you're thinking, but the humour is consistent and subtle. It comes from the character development which is exquisite, and the little details in the background, like the way they have decorated their houses, facial expressions, and remarks.
The story follows Dan Foreman (Dennis Quaid), who's company is bought out by a large corporation who appoint the 26 year old high flyer Carter (Topher Grace) as the new head of sales. Obviously Dan is a little put out to be superseded by a man half his age, and with a very different, harsh, style. Many employees are scarified in the pursuit of bigger profits to further Dan's dismay. It really kicks off when Carter starts seeing Dan's daughter Alex (Scarlett Johansson).
This is a must see film particularly if you enjoyed Lost in Translation. Having said that my Mrs didn't like Lost in Translation but loved this. It's a very original film, I think what they have tried to do is quite audacious but they have pulled it off.
Incidentally when I watched it the Red wasn't working on my TV so the whole film was in Blue, Green and Yellow and I still enjoyed it, in fact it may even have added something to the atmosphere, maybe it's something to try if the director ever reads this.
