written by alandbet on 03/08/2012

Bought the first one in 2010. within 6 months it was replaced by Sainsburys as unrepairable. The second machine was consigned to car cleaning (only used once every two weeks for about fifteen minutes) After 18months the motor had overheated and stopped working. Contacted HOOVER-CANDY GROUP to be advised 'SORRY OUT OF GUARANTEE They would send an engineer at a cost of £70.00 plus parts. The cleaner only cost £68.00. I have now purchaced an ORECK which so far works perfectly. I am sorry that I did not read the reviews prior to my HOOVER PUREPOWER purchace.

SEE MY REVIEW 03/08/2012 re HOOVER PUREPOWER

Just received a cheque for £85.00 from Sainsburys. 11 months out of warranty. HOOVER (CANDY) didn't want to know. SAINSBURYS on the other hand agreed that the appliance SHOULD have lasted longer and agreed a refund.
WELL DONE SAINSBURYS!!

“Paid top price for poor quality.”

written by records1990 on 25/10/2011

When new I paid top price for this vac, because I thought it would be the best, but pick-up was poor, I always changed bags frequently, and kept it clean, it's quicker to use a brush and shovel to pick up dirt from the carpet. I'm so disapointed with it.

This has been thrown out to the garage for car cleaning as I have had enough of it in the house. The heat that comes from it when in use makes vaccuming very hot work, it is noisy and falls over when using the tools which fall of the hook when not in use. What a waste of money.

I bought the Pure Power a few years and am very reluctant to use it as the hose does not stay wound up so keeps falling onto the floor. If you take the nozzle out to use it, the whole thing falls over as it has a very short, tight hose. It has given me a number of bruises over the years. I hate it!!!!

My Hoover Purepower 1500 keeps shutting off, I think it has a thermostat in it, I also keep thinking the bag is full and you end up buying more bags.
The roller was worn out after 4 months.
The foot pedal housing snapped in no time and now it keeps falling over. I do not recommend it.

“I bought a Hoover Purepower 1500 just under a year...”

written by on 13/07/2008

I bought a Hoover Purepower 1500 just under a year ago. First of all, when it was just six months old, the cable failed. Engineer came out and repaired. One month later cable failed again. Plus, the handle release pedal broke and one of the wheels fell off. Engineer came out and fixed. Then I noticed it wasn't picking up very well only to find that the agitator brush was completely bald! After eight months. New agitator brush duly sent through. (By this time the Hoover helpline was practically on speed dial) All was well for a few weeks then the cable failed again. I am, at present, trying to obtain a refund, who knows if I'll get it?

“Words cannot express just how truly awful the Hoover...”

written by nick1james on 07/03/2008

Words cannot express just how truly awful the Hoover Purepower is. My 1700w example was so riddled with faults that I cannot believe Hoover tested it further than operating the on-off switch.
Our first problem was with the bags (Hoover bags) that developed small splits in the wall, causing them to burst. These were being caused by the bag compartment that has small 'fins' moulded in to aid circulation. The vacuum force was so strong that they were piercing the bag. I therefore got out the gaffer tape and smoothed them over . This solved that problem but caused the force of the vacuum to concentrate its destructive efforts on the seam at the bottom of the bag. The bags were giving up after a few days of use and barely one-tenth full so I started to gaffer tape the seam to strengthen it. Even this remedy was insufficient and they burst again before being half-full.
The next problem encountered was with the clip on the exhaust filter door. It retains the flexible hose and snapped after a few months. Hoover provided a replacement . That snapped as well . Hoover refused to supply another which was just as well as that eradicated any semblance of brand loyalty that I had left. I was reduced to drilling the door and attaching a bolt that worked fine The flexible hose itself is nothing short of dangerous. If you use it to clean the stair treads with the hoover above you , the vacuum created in the hose causes it to snap short pulling the machine on top of you.
Persevered with it for about 2 years until thankfully it finally blew up. Did what I should have done in the first place and bought a Sebo instead.

“After using the Hoover Purepower 1500 I'm desperate...”

written by G Hampson on 24/02/2008

After using the Hoover Purepower 1500 I'm desperate for a decent vacuum cleaner. It's supposed to be a 1700w pethoover, but it clogs up with dog hair after couple of uses and has to be unclogged before you can get any suction from the hose attachment. Height adjuster fell is broken off after just a few months. Falls over very easily just by pulling at the hose to clean stairs etc.

Dreadful cleaner, everything has literally fallen apart. Carpet height level broke of within a month. Switches just came off in my hand. Collapses and won't stay upright, Nozzle split. Bags and filters are very expensive. Now motor is going leaving an awful burning rubber pong and is very very noisy. All this after just under twelve months of use. Awful will never buy Hoover again!

“We've got the hoover Pure Power Pets 2000w. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by hannahspanner on 14/04/2007

We've got the hoover Pure Power Pets 2000w.

I was pleased when we first brought this hoover as it sucked up everything really well but soon found out that doesn't last. Have to avoid letting the bags get too full otherwise it's useless! If you do let it get too full the hoover overheats and stops working altogether for about 1/2 hour.

I also found the hose kept on falling off as I was hoovering- really annoying! The tools also fall off very easily and the hose end comes out of the hole so you get a load of dust coming back out - REALLY BAD DESIGN! My sister has the 1800w hoover and found that is does the same thing!

Mine also broke whilst I was just doing normal hoovering. It now wont stand up on it's own) and it keeps falling down so it's obviously not built to last!

written by dukeofall on 09/01/2007

We have the Hoover Purepower 1800w. We called them out to it 3 times in first 12 months for various broken parts. We have now owned it for 14 months and the wheel has fallen off this time. It seems to me that something breaks every 3 months or so. The height control slider snapped, the part that holds the handle etc upright broke allowing the handle to fall to the floor every time we left it alone.
We also bought a Hoover washer/dryer and it has the same sort of fault history.

I agree, I had one of these a few years back. Never very happy with it. It started falling to pieces shortly after the guarantee ran out! All the fittings holding the roller in place broke. I tried superglueing the bits together but it was not strong enough. It was the last straw with this vaccuum cleaner which also kept blocking up every time I used it, and it was dustbin day. So out it went! Never again will I buy Hoover! My little Electrolux has never let me down!

Similar experience, pieces started breaking 7 days before guarantee expired, they just suddenly broke, It would have looked good in a sit com. I patiently await engineer! Sadly I had recommended this hoover product to a friend previously!

“My wife bought this Hoover Purepower 1500 and likes...”

★★☆☆☆

written by ralphrye on 25/05/2006

My wife bought this Hoover Purepower 1500 and likes it. I think it's awful. Good suction as an upright, but as soon as you detach the hose, which is short and inflexible, the machine falls backwards, again and again and again. Hoover needs to look up 'Centre of Gravity' and learn. Also, the bag also becomes detached easily, causing dust leakage from the body, and an unpleasant surprise when you open the door! Also feels about as flimsy as a chewed straw. I would avoid.

written by Ju on 10/01/2006

The plastic on my Hoover Purepower 1500 vacuum cleaner was brittle and snapped in a number of places. When using the hose which was far too short, the vac frequently fell over (and did so on top of my youngster).

I feel completely ripped off, and have since sent it to the tip. It is a disgrace that Hoover are selling such utter rubbish!!

“The cord on the Hoover Purepower 1500 vacuum cleaner...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by HCATHERINE on 18/12/2005

The cord on the Hoover Purepower 1500 vacuum cleaner is ridiculously short. The door falls off. The top of the bag-less thing keeps melting due to overheating (no matter how many times they come and mend it). It does not clean to the edge of the carpets. The filters need constant washing. The attachments fall off the hoover when you use it. When you use the attachments and go back to upright, all the dirt falls out of the bottom. The curly hose doesn't stay in place and pops out of the bottom of the hoover frequently. The button to adjust the hoover for each carpet depth has fallen off. It doesn't hoover dog hair very well, and it doesn't like close pile carpets... I could go on...

What more is there to say?

“We have the purple Hoover Purepower 1800w Vacuum...”

★★☆☆☆

written by hooverman on 03/08/2005

We have the purple Hoover Purepower 1800w Vacuum Cleaner. My dad hates the damn thing and wishes he had never purchased it. I only like it because it has good suction and cleans up thread and pet hair without a worry. And also the self sealing dustbags are very clean and easy to dispose of. The main problem is the base. It is very flizy and at one point the cleaner wouldnt stand up so i had to pay 20.00 to get a whole new base. It is something to do with the plastic pedal its self, the plastic is very bendy and causes the cleaner not to stand up because it cannot support the weight of the hoovers main body. The filteration is very poor on this model because around the vent where the so called clean air is expelled is all dust particals so it shows that the filteration doesnt work. There is no light on the newer models to tell you if the bag is full and you cannot remove the bag to check otherwise it will seal and you will have to bin the bag which you thought was full was only half. After around 8 months the cleaner got five times louder it was another flimsy plastic clip which is suposed to hold the beater bar in place but it didnt and it was so loud because the beater bar wasnt clamped down and was vibrating all over the place.

The bags are not very big for an upright and fill up ever so fast so if you want to save money on bags you should empty it out and refit it because the self seal can be pushed back so you can re use the bag.

Some of the helpline people can be rude but others can help you out with your vacuum if it plays up.

If anyone has any problems with thier hoover vacuums use your warrenty like i did you dont need a till slip just give them your serial number and they will no how old it is and if your warrenty is till valid.

Buy this hoover if you like to buy expensive dustbags and spend money on parts all the time.

But if not go for a cylinder model as I think they are very good and you you will not have any trouble.

Thank you for reading my review and I hope all you people looking to buy a purepower will have a rethink before you go ahead with your purchase.

Hoover Purepower 1500 1700W - I wish there had been reviews of this vacuum cleaner when we purchased it in October 2003 - because obviously we would have chosen another manufacturer! Hoover, today, were quite arrogant and dismissive in their Customer Services Dept.

written by stevelangston on 09/06/2004

Hoover Purepower 1500 1700W - Poorly designed two belt system mis-aligns frequently...only way to fix it is new chassis. I have 3 pure power models for care homes I run...they have all failed eventually. I have modified one myself to good effect but this is an extreme measure to have to take. But I like how well it performs so I put up with it.
