An utterly dismal experience from beginning to expensive and pointless end. Pension value £0...thanks to huge charges, opaque admin. I have absolutely nothing whatsoever positive to say about Abbey Life or its pension...nothing whatsoever. Every year I get reams and reams of information with regards to my tiny but fast disappearing pension pot, helped along by what are now 25% administration charges....yes 25%. Following 6 phone calls and relevant forms completed and returned, my husband and I are still no further forward in receiving the surrender proceeds of our joint life assurance policy. I now have to submit proof of Identification despite them having received the monthly premiums from my own bank account since 1993 !! and answering the relevant " for security purposes" questions !!!! . Abbey life admit to having all the paper work necessary to process my matured pension which is being held in a holding account since july 2nd 2015 Despite numerous phone calls at 2p per minute to their helpline (normally held in a queue playing their piped in music at your expense for over 20 minutes) I am getting nowhere. “Pension pot delays”

I like so many other have been trying to cash in a small pension pot with Abbey Life 2 months later i still cannot even be told how much i am entitled to as they are working out fees !!. Customer service is a joke and make customers pay for every call. I have had several letters telling me that it is being dealt with but no pay out, is it not about time this company was looked into by the ombudsman. I have been trying to withdraw my pension pot since May, it's only a relatively small amount (just over 10K). They've had all the completed paperwork etc since early June after ridiculous amounts of letter exchanges. Waste of time phoning with waiting times up to an hour - never known any company quite that bad. Abbey Life have still failed to make my payment 6 weeks later I and can't get any response from them. “slow to pay out pension”

Full of excuses for not paying out my pension pot, main excuse is budget changes. Strange Legal and General did not have a problem paying on time. Grateful i only have a small lump sum to receive and not relying on the cash to invest. 30 minutes waiting for the phone to be answered. This is a £10billion company that on its web site says ‘Abbey Life aims to be a solid and dependable organisation that is recognised for operating to high standards, providing good levels of service to our customers, and delivering what we have promised.’ The reality is that a call to customer services takes around 40minutes to get answered, they lost my forms, and then they told me it’ll take over a month for me to receive my pension funds. I moved last November and notified abbey life of my new address i retired early so closed the bank account down that my salary was paid into and just used our joint bank account I forgot to notify abbey life but when I remembered I phoned them and told them I had moved banks they said I had to put it in writing,fair enough I'm all for being extra security conscious in this day and age. “How much paper work does it take”

Thank goodness it is not just me.Trying to change my annuity to another provider is proving very frustrating, my financial consultant is equally fed up with them.The most annoying part is speaking to any of their unhelpful staff who just trot out the same party line "This is the way we do it" Another company did a similar transfer in about four weeks.Abbey are nearly three months down the line.Never again… Read Full Review

“Will not pay our money - any excuse to delay payment”

This company is appalling, not only has our endowment policy not performed in any way as well as our other endowments with other companies, but now it appears that after paying this policy for 25 years and them taking the money from our bank for 25 years, that their rep originally spelt our name wrong. “On point of transferring monies into the open market...”

I have had a fund since 1985 worth £125,000. I accepted the £4000 penalty for retiring early but wanted the pension to start in early July just after my birthday. By the time I received my 25% tax free on September 14th the fund had dropped in value to £114,000!
