Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is not quite up to normal Harry Potter standards, but it's still a good book that supplies a mystery that will keep you holding the book until you reach the climax.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is probably my least favorite in the series, but that doesn't mean it's not good. In fact, it's a very good read and the bad points aren't as strong as the good points. It's not as exciting as the others, the whole plot is centred around Harry's lessons, and the climax isn't quite as exciting as previous books. It doesn't rush into the exciting bits, Harry's general school life is quite amusing, and not knowing what Malfoy's up to the whole time can have you on the edge of your seat.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is probably one of the best books that I have ever read but I did find it rather sad at the end.
If you haven't read it yet you should. It really is fantastic.

I really do love Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince although it seems to be orientated more towards adult readers this time. I can't wait for the next book to come out next year. The questions and possibilities for the next book at the end leave you waiting for more. We also learn more about the characters feelings towards each other- not that these weren't fairly clear through the previous few books. Overall this is well worth reading

J K Rowling really grips you and makes you feel like you're there! Like the Nastiness of Malfoy or the evil of Voldemort. The Horcrux's are pure evil, and they make you want to help Harry and Professor Dumbledor. When Dumbledor dies, it makes you well-up and feel for Harry, because Dumbledor is like part of a loving family. She makes you think of what life could be like if you were Harry Potter; all Magic and friends and horrible family.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is another smashering success of J.K.'s saga about Harry Potter. As she leads her masterpiece's "hero" into even more secrets unravelling some old ones, she prompts us to think about Harry's future giving no hints. Potter fans around the globe are in such excitement whilst waiting for the last sequel-the 7th book which is to reveal whole situation. There are many theories circulating on the forums about it, but I prefer waiting. With no doubt, I can say it will be a blast when it hits the stores. Can't wait...
Till that moment comes I'll read over the new Harry trying to figure out what's yet to come...because it's the best part of it-you can read it like thousand times and within every reading discover something else. Enjoy...

WARNING- This review contains *spoilers*
There is one word I can use for this book that will sum it up for all Harry Potter fans. A simple three-letter palindromic word. Wow.

This books displays remarkable key features, such as mature develpments of characters, as well as involvements in romances. J.K.Rowling has portrayed Tom Riddle's (Voldemort's) past exceptionally well, this main plot being an explanatory point for the predecessors.

The end is shocking, but well written and almost necessary or the reader to mature as Harry does. The invention of the Horcrux was marvellous and fits in so well with the plot. Harry's mixed ideas about Snape and Malfoy give the plot variety and suspense, as well as the mystery of the 'Half-Blood Prince'.

Overall, this book is one of my favourites in the series and along with everything going on at Hogwarts, is the most captivating in the series. Two thumbs up, and a lot of toes. Excellent, remarkable, magnificent, marvellous, super, awesome, powerful, emotional and just plain exceptional writing.

“***WARNING*** THERE ARE TOO MANY ***SPOILERS*** IN...”

written by Nemi on 31/03/2006

***WARNING*** THERE ARE TOO MANY ***SPOILERS*** IN THIS REVIEW TO COUNT, BUT I JUST LOVE DETAILS. If you have read the book though, proceed. (And I suppose you have, if you're reading these reviews).

I completely agree with squonk (other HBP reviewer). Both on his/her opinions on the books (except for the fact that I WOULDN'T recommend you NOT to buy it; it wasn't BAD, even if it didn't actually fit my huge expectations) and his/her ranking of which book she/he thinks is the best.

Though I've waited for all the restrained romance of the Harry Potter series to finally blossom, and while HBP does, it lacks the (for me) thrilling and exciting storyline with all the interlinked mysteries that are finally solved (I especially love that tiny, little insignificant details or characters have so much to say for the pieces of the puzzle to form a clear picture of the mystery solved), mostly by luck or accident (though of course also some brains, good guesses and quick thinking). I know there's the suspicion of Malfoy being a death eater and Harry wondering what he's up to, as well as the identity of the Half-Blood Prince, and how that poison found its way to Slughorn's wine bottle, not to mention Dumbledore's lessons with Harry, but I can't help but still miss the nightly wanderings and heart-stopping experiences and mysteries that I love in the other books of the series. Even worse (and I hate to admit this!), the romantic scenes I LOVED! But... to me, some scenes, especially the Harry and Ginny finally becoming a couple one), seemed almost like fan fiction. Now I know it sounds ludicrous, and I was almost dreading admitting this to my friend, but when I did, she agreed and said she thought the whole BOOK seemed fan fictiony. Now, I wouldn't go as far as that, and it might just be that me and my friend have had an overload of HP fan fiction over the years, but I'm sorry to say that's my opinion. I do love all romance in general, but J.K Rowling usually has this way of making anything like that either just perfect or humours or... wrong (when it's supposed to be, mind; Draco and Pansy...eew), but this just didn't seem authentic enough. To my defence I'll conclude with that apparently fan fiction overload = bad judgement? I dunno. At the very least it probably clouds your judgement and/or makes you expect something completely different than what actually happens in canon.

There's also the fact that being such a successful writer as J.K.R is, it must be extremely difficult to live up to the exceeding expectations of fans worldwide, while living on a deadline (and though it's a loose one, fans to expect it to take less than four years; not that I'm saying that any of her books ever did, though book 7 will definitely be a challenge to perfect, I think) while juggling family life, making up another extreme mystery after another, with all these little things interlinked must be extremely difficult in the long run. And I suppose J. K. R wanted (like me) to actually DO something about all the tense love-attraction in the air of the previous books, which is brilliant, but different I suppose. Which is why I suppose some fans prefer the other books.

J.K. Rowling's, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, in my opinion, is the best of the Potter series. ALL the potter books are great, but I feel this one has the edge over the others. It has a range of emotions, and you notice different characters as actually being more cunning and generally better than you thought they would be.

This is a really great read, and maybe my favourite book of all time!

I've been a fan of the Harry Potter books ever since I first got my hands on a copy of the Philosopher's Stone.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is definitely the best one yet!
It will make you laugh and cry, and you can almost smell what he smells and see what he see.

I recommend it to everyone!!

written by squonk on 28/11/2005

I was disappointed with the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince book. If you read the others, you of course have to read it, but all it does is set up the last book. As a book in its own right, I felt like I was reading 600 plus pages of ho-hum narrative just so I could finally get to the end. The end has a huge surprise. The first few chapters are good, and the last two chapters are very good. The huge middle section (500 pages) were dull. J K Rowling is a superb writer, and I am expecting book 7 to blow us all away. So far, Goblet of Fire is the best, followed by Phoenix, then Prisoner of Azkaban.

written by dramaking on 22/11/2005

The Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince book was better, and more intricately detailed compared with the rest of the series, and there are lots of deeper moments.

The amazing thing about J.K. Rowling is that she isn't afraid to kill off main characters and to turn the most unlikely people into villains (Malfoy).

I am also impressed by the planning put into them. There are references in this book to tiny things in previous books that have been overlooked but are vitally important.

I personally find her books awe inspiring, and at the same time she is very modest - she is an U*N*R*E*A*L author.
A TRULY AMAZING READ!!

As good as she is, I believe that she originally set the books out for 10-15 year olds, then when she saw the success with all ages, the books got longer, more detailed, and for some of the younger kids too, dark and 'scary'.
