I Am Sitting Here Waiting With My Whirlpool Gu1500

I am sitting here waiting with my Whirlpool GU1500XT for Tuesday so a repair man can come again. He came in March 08 and replaced a valve on a 3 year old dishwasher so that I would not have water spots. Now in October 08 the washer will not do a thing after the soap dispenser has opened (except heat up for drying eventually) Who wants dry dirty dishes? I just end up with hot dirty dishes and the soap just lying there. Are there any recalls?

Can anyone recommend a good dish washer without looking at consumer report where this one was rated as one of the best.

We do not have money to throw away but we feel the entire machine should be replaced.

Having A Problem Getting My Whirlpool Gu1500xt To

Having a problem getting my Whirlpool GU1500XT to wash properly? Service people telling you to use only the anti-bacterial setting, turn up hot water, use the proper detergent, load it better, say proper prayers over it?

The latter, the service tech's advice is pure nonsense. They do not seem to understand the machine. If it is not washing properly, tub perhaps coated with slime perform a sniff test. If it smells off there is a reason. The service techs should know this but don't appear to. I think the machine has a major design flaw that allows it to accumulate debris in the bottom of the sump. It should be self-flushing but isn't. You have to dig down in there and clean it out. You will need the proper documentation to help you take it apart or be very careful not to break the plastic parts. Be sure to clear the water inlet to the pump and the check valve. The latter is just a rubber flapper. Clean it out and it will start working just fine.

How do I know? I have to clean ours every few months. Do this and it works fine. The service folks, while it was still under contract, replaced the entire pump and motor assembly twice, the pc board, the detergent dispenser, the upper spray with its water delivery tube and other parts. All of this to make it clean properly. When the pumps were replaced the thing worked until it got dirty each time.

The first replacement pump was probably needlessly replaced by an ignorant tech. The replacement was replaced by another tech when it failed to clean properly. It had to be replaced anyway as it was recalled for an electrical fault that could produce a shock hazard.

The dispenser quit dispensing rinse aid. The tech put in a new assembly. It naturally needs it replaced again now as the plastic lid has worn out where the latch holds it shut. JUNK!

In the end, the real problem here was the service techs for me.

I've Had The Motor Replaced In My Whirlpool Gu1500

I've had the motor replaced in my Whirlpool GU1500XT twice, a couple service people have instructed me on the careful do's and dont's of soap filling, soap buying, loading etc. - All I can say is, I just want clean dishes. I want to buy soap that is carried in stores, I want to fill the container without a measuring spoon (apparently, 2 tbsp is recommended), and I want clean dishes at the end. I have a demanding job, and lots of things to do other than think about my dishwasher. It's three years old and I'm now budgeting for a new, non-whirlpool model in 07.

The Whirlpool Gu1500 Dish Washer Is A Useless Appl

The Whirlpool GU1500 dish washer is a useless appliance. I put in clean dishes, I wash them twice, and I still have dirty dishes. The machine never works well. I wash out the thing empty before I use it. I waste a lot of water. And still I rewash by hand. I have thrown out glasses that have had food baked on by the drying cycle after an incomplete wash. I used to own a Bosch that worked well. It was 10 years old, and I should have kept it when it broke down. I got it used for free, and it was 100 times better than the one I bought at Sears in 2003.

I would never buy a Whirlpool washer again. It hardly cleans my dishes. It is much faster to wash by hand. I usually don't trust any actual cleaning to the Whirlpool. On more than one occasion the service person told me the thing was working fine. I have called for service only to be told to use a rinse agent or less detergent. If there is not enough water or the thing does not purge, or I don't know what. The technician told me "that it was as best as it could do". He had me use the Pots and Pans cycle because he told me it uses the most water. That improved the performance somewhat. Also I routinely disassemble the upper arm to get food out. Just one piece of rice will stop an outlet hole, so I keep cleaning that and the lower arm too. I think the pump is weak, and I think it should be replaced. I don't care. I want to throw it out.

Consumer reports say whirlpool dishwashers are inferior to European brands, and that is so true. I wish I never bought this thing. If the technician has been telling me the truth, I have wasted my money on the washer and on the service contract.

"I put in clean dishes, I wash them twice, and I still have dirty dishes."

I'm not sure I understand that, Coopie. Anyway, I have a marvellous dishwasher which is a piece of stick with a bundle of cords stapled to one end.

The only other things needed are washing-up liquid and hot water -- works a treat!

I Did My Homework When Opting For The Whirlpool Gu

I did my homework when opting for the Whirlpool GU1500XT after reading through consumer magazines and to be honest, I won't be buying those magazines again because I feel duped. The early signs were good, bonus features like the SaniRinse and AntiBacterial options, were of great value to us as my Great Uncle Billy is very sick, the poor guy has seen better days. But damn I ain't happy, because for all the features and sales pitch, this washer isn't up to scratch. I find my plates and glasses have pieces of food and crud all over them, I even find hidden pieces of garbage in the sliding parts of the draws. This is in no uncertain terms disgusting. The damn door even burst open on me once, ruining my best denims. In conclusion I am not happy and if I could afford to, I'd trade this thing in for scrap - yesterday.
