As a co - been with them for about 10 years & at 5 outlets - speed often determined by local infrastructure - so don't see how anyone can blame them & you get what you pay for - they are v cost effective . Any problems we've had (prob once a year!) were dealt with efficiently - couldn't ask any more for the price

“The Worst Customer Service Possible”

I have just spoken to the most ill-mannered and ill-trained customer services representative I've ever encountered. Fireflyuk was once a good ISP. It never prided itself on being inexpensive, but it was friendly, helpful and efficient. Despite what it says on its now difficult to negotiate website, that is no longer the case - by a long way. Everything, it seems, is the customer's fault and I suspect this company's days are numbered if it carries on like this.

I have been with Firefly for about three years, having checked them out on the recommendation of a friend. Prior to that I was with Blueyonder (as was) on a cable network connection but I moved house and the new location was not cabled up.

I must say that the speed I achieve is poor (less than 3Mbps) but whether that is because of the BT line and the distance I am from the local exchange or anything to do with Firefly, I don't know. Equally, it could be because of my lousy wireless router and the fact that with three teenaged sons the old Internet connection gets a real bashing. So much of a bashing that, despite being on the most expensive bandwidth package that Firefly offered, I was frequently incurring excess usage charges.

Firefly noticed this and contacted me and suggested I move over to a business package that was more suitable to my household's usage patterns. Since then, no more excess usage charges and one happy customer.

I was pretty happy even before the changeover. The excess charges were justified and in compliance with the company's clearly stated usage policy, and they make it easy to track how much bandwidth you are using and when (working hours or off peak).

I've had the odd connection and technical problem and found the people on the Helpdesk to be co-operative, even when, on one occasion, I inadvertently uploaded on to Firefly'ss servers a web page with a very, very nasty virus on it (I am very careful with PC security but can't guarantee that my kids are as fastidious).

The poor connection speed is a downer and I am tempted to give another ISP a try for a year just to convince myself this is a BT problem, not a Firefly one, but it hardly seems fair on Firefly as they have been on the level with me.

“I can't understand the reviewers who complain about...”

I can't understand the reviewers who complain about rudeness and sarcasm. I'm not the greatest from a technical understanding point of view, but I've always found Firefly's customer service people very helpful. I occasionally get a rather curt manner initially, but never rudeness. The service is generally very good and only very occasionally have I lost the connection - more often with email. I think their value for money is pretty good, especially as customer support is always there by phone during office hours and by email at other times (although that's obviously not much use if you've lost your connection!).

Been with Firefly for about 5 years now. I have always found them to be very helpful, though a bit curt - but I think thats just the Scottish manner for that area. They invest in new services and equiptment, speed is fairly consistant - bearing in mind ALL isps struggle to some extent with that. Yes their support is limited to offices hours, but help is usually on hand on the forum. I have noticed though though if you are rude to them, they will sometimes be a bit quick to be sarcastic back.

Would I recommend? Yes, I still would (and have) even after 5+ years. You want to speak to the MD then just ask, try that with BT, Talk Talk etc.
My connection very rarely drops and speed is consistant considering I'm in a rural area. A far far better option thatn most. Oh, as for throtteling, yes a couple of years back there was some trialling going on as they also moved pipe supplier, but whilst there is some, for the average usuer it is little or none existant.

Been with Firefly for 5 years. Disappointing from beginning to end, and only stayed this long due to inertia. Should have moved so long ago. Their customer service is woeful - staff are rude and patronising, and seem to have the attitude customers are an inconvenient hindrance. Plus they are only open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, which is useless for anyone out at work all day if you need to troubleshoot your home connection with them by phone. To cap it all when I moved to another ISP they didn't mention anything about charging me to disconnect from BT until after the other ISP had already connected me, and now they are threatening me with a recovery agent if I don't pay the alleged £27 immediately. Would have given zero stars if I could on this site. Avoid Firefly at all costs - cheaper, faster and better customer service available elsewhere!

A few years ago, Firefly were outstanding. I've had a few more problems, particularly with email, in the last year or so. But their customer service is excellent. If I was writing this review a year ago they would have got a ten. I have been with Firefly for about 4 years and during the first 3.5 years they were brilliant. I recommended many people to them during this time which I feel quite embarrassed about it now. I chose them as even though they are more expensive that most ISP they did not block ports or impose download limits.
However it all started going wrong this year when they have started heavily blocking ports (or traffic shaping as they call it). When I flagged this to them I was told it was a fault on the network. It wasn ' t. If you want your films to download at 1k per second you've found the ISP to do it for you.
Firefly clearly have some big issues going on at the moment. Whether this is due to plain incompetence or coping with rapid growth is unclear. What is abundantly clear is that they simply do not care about their customers and my having been with them for such a long time held me in no regard with them at all. That said they do have some genuinely helpful support staff who are obviously trying their best within the constraints of a poor network.

I have been with Firefly for many, many years, first as a dial-up, and now with broadband, and I wish every company I dealt with was as courteous, as knowledgeable, as helpful and as professional as they are. I live in the wilds of Wales with a BT line prone to strange faults, and Firefly are superb at sorting out the occasional glitch. Nothing is ever too much trouble. I would certainly recommend. The only reason I haven't given them a 10/10 is that they are not open over the week-end, so if you have a problem on Friday night, you have to wait until Monday morning to get it sorted.

As far as I am concerned they refuse to answer my queries re changes to their prepaid service. I then topped up with another £25 in the hope of getting details of their new conditions. They have not yet replied and I cannot find out by when I need to have used my prepaid hours. At that time goodbye Firefly.

I have only been with this company for 2 weeks but wow what a service. After my bad experience with another provider I was very cautious with this company. They have surpassed all my expectations, they answer the phone quickly, they understand what you are saying, you understand they are saying and they are able to help with any problems. We had a few hiccups in setting up but one phone call sorted all this out. They are polite, call you by your first name and nothing is to much trouble. Well done Firefly for this exceptional service. I would recommend this company as they actually do and supply what they say they will.

Firefly are a really good small ISP, they excel in their customer support. When you call them, they answer very quickly and you talk you engineers.

I have been with them for 10 months now - I moved house during that period and they were very helpful in dealing with BT (there was a line problem that BT had to sort out before I could get connected)

They now offer a capped service (5Gb which is enough for most users) at comparative costs with the main suppliers eg. BT, Tiscali, AOL etc

I have now put a number of friends onto Firefly and all of them have had no problems at all with the service.

I have been with Firefly (www.fireflyuk.net) since Feb 04 and recommend them to everyone. The only problem at the moment is their mail server has some gremlins and is down once a month. However this does not stop the web from functioning and as yet have not had any downtime for connection.
